Terry Godwin

Godwin was an instant impact player as a true freshman in 2015, catching 35 of 57 targets for 379 yards and a pair of scores in a vanilla offense that averaged a middling 7.4 yards per attempt. He’s a fast and shifty target that showed that he wasn’t afraid to go over the middle as a freshman despite being on the smaller side at 5-11, 174. Now that Malcolm Mitchell will be playing on Sundays this fall, Godwin should have an even more prominent role in the offense. There are some factors working against him this season, however, such as questionable options at quarterback that may result in Georgia leaning on the run game as much if not more than last season. Either true freshman Jacob Eason or Greyson Lambert will be under center to start the season, and both of them have drawbacks. Lambert often showed an unwillingness to trust his arm last year, leading him to not push the ball down the field. Eason, though possessing a strong arm, will be prone to make freshman mistakes that the coaching staff will likely try to curtail that by being conservative with him. Even though Godwin is arguably Georgia’s best receiver coming into 2016, the offense around him won’t be conducive to gaudy production from him.
