DraftKings CFL: Week 14 Cheat Sheet

DraftKings CFL: Week 14 Cheat Sheet

This article is part of our DraftKings CFL DFS Picks series.

The CFL postseason is on the horizon, but there are still a handful of contests left for each squad. We have some young, relatively inexperienced quarterbacks in action, which can lead to some potentially big days for defense, and there are also some attractive matchups for some proven skill players.

DraftKings CFL Plays- Week 14

Quarterback

Jeremiah Masoli, HAM vs. BC ($11,200): Masoli has been excellent since his return from the injured list, and he's posted 27.1 to 31.9 DK points while generating a 7:0 TD:INT in his last three games. The veteran has contributed over 20 rushing yards in each of those contests as well, and he'll be facing a Lions squad that's allowed a CFL-high 278.2 passing yards per game and the third-highest completion percentage (67.2) leaguewide. Masoli has also been at his best at home, where he's thrown for an average of 301.3 passing yards per contest and averaged 22.5 DK points in three games overall.

Mike Reilly, BC at HAM ($10,100): Reilly finally looked like himself again in Week 13 after multiple poor games, posting 23.1 DK points against the Argonauts in an overtime road loss Saturday. The veteran signal-caller has been a much better performer on the road this season, averaging 19.5 DK points across six contests while generating a 7:2 TD:INT. Reilly's salary has only bumped up $400 over last week, and although Hamilton has been relatively tough against the pass, Reilly has shown plenty of upside this season with six tallies of more than 20 DK points.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson, TOR at OTT ($9,200): MBT found his footing again to an extent in Week 13 after a forgettable four-INT performance versus the Alouettes in Week 12, posting a solid 14.4 DK points in an OT win over the Lions. He should be back under center again for Saturday afternoon's matchup against the hapless Redblacks, which have allowed 271.7 passing yards per game, a CFL-high 264 completions and a CFL-high 73.7 percent completion rate. Ottawa has also yielded a CFL-high 20 passing touchdowns and 109.6 passer efficiency rating, which provides MBT no shortage of paths to posting a strong return on his reasonable salary.

ALSO CONSIDER: Zach Collaros, WPG vs. MTL ($9,600)

Running Back

William Stanback, MTL at WPG ($10,800): Stanback posted a solid performance in Week 13, compiling 105 total yards on his way to 14.5 DK points against the Roughriders. The versatile back had been even better a week prior, when he'd racked up 29.3 DK points against the Argos, his second tally over 25 DK points on the season. Saturday night, Stanback will look to augment his average of 16.8 DK points by exploiting a Blue Bombers run defense that's allowed 5.3 yards per carry and six rushing TDs for the season.

D.J. Foster, TOR at OTT ($7,700): Foster came through as a value play in Week 13, finally finding some running room and complementing his rushing exploits with another solid day through the air. The former Arizona Cardinal posted 91 total yards on his way to 12.1 DK points, and although I'm not thrilled with his $900 salary hike, the RB pool is usually shallow in the CFL and Foster brings a valued secondary role as a pass catcher. He's also facing a porous Redblacks defense that, in addition to their deficiencies against the pass already elaborated on in Bethel-Thompson's entry, have also allowed the second-most rushing yards per game (116.2) and 5.0 yards per carry.

Don Jackson, HAM vs. BC ($5,000): Jackson finally got a chance to see some run in Week 13 and delivered handsomely, racking up 120 rushing yards and a score on 16 carries. That led to a haul of 21 DK points, and although his salary his doubled this week, that still leaves him as an outstanding value play. Jackson didn't see a target last week but posted 44 receptions over his first two CFL seasons, so the value is also potentially there in that regard against a BC defense that's allowed 104.2 rushing yards per contest, 4.8 yards per carry, and as noted in Masoli's entry earlier, a league-high number of passing yards per game as well.

ALSO CONSIDER: Johnny Augustine, WPG vs. MTL ($5,500)

Wide Receiver/Slotback

Ricky Collins, TOR at OTT ($8,500): Collins makes for a nice pivot off several higher-salaried options that may have trouble delivering on their bloated figures. The veteran speedster carries the upside to offer a nice return on the $8.5k investment required to roster him, and he's already shown with one tally over 20 DK points this season and another four of between 14.0 and 15.5. The weaknesses of the Redblacks defense against the pass were already noted in Bethel-Thompson's entry, and in addition to the figures cited there, it's worth noting Ottawa has also allowed the second-most completions of 30 yards or more, while Collins has averaged between 14.7 and 22.0 yards per catch in four of his last six contests.

Jaelon Acklin, HAM vs. BC ($8,000): Acklin has demonstrated a solid fantasy floor for most of the season, and he's scored 13.5 to 21.6 DK points in his last three contests while notching a TD grab in each. The sure-handed wideout has been slightly more productive at home with an average of 11.7 DK points across five contests, and he should be poised for another productive showing against a Lions defense, that, as highlighted in Masoli's entry, has given up plenty of completions.

Rasheed Bailey, WPG vs. MTL ($7,000): Bailey is another interesting mid-salary option, as he's found the end zone in three of the last four contests and has demonstrated impressive consistency with five straight double-digit DK-point tallies. Bailey has even logged five rush attempts over the last three games, and with multiple grabs in every game this season and a matchup against an Alouettes defense that's yielded 8.1 yards per attempt, the veteran could well deliver a solid return, especially if he gets back in the end zone.

Steven Dunbar, HAM vs. BC ($5,800): Dunbar is coming on strong as the season winds down, and his salary remains very reasonable for a player that's posted over 16 DK points in each of the last two contests, and 12.7 or greater in four of the last five. Dunbar has touchdowns in each of his last two games as well, and he's recorded at least one catch of over 20 yards in four consecutive games. Given the deficiencies of BC's pass defense outlined earlier, Dunbar could once again overdeliver on salary.

ALSO CONSIDER: Kurleigh Gittens, TOR at OTT ($6,900)

Team Defense

Saskatchewan Roughriders ($4,800) at Edmonton Elks: The Elks are going with the still-developing Taylor Cornelius at quarterback, and the OSU product could certainly be goaded into some turnovers against a savvy Roughriders defense. Saskatchewan is averaging 10.1 DK points per game and has scored no fewer than 8.0 DK points in five of the last six contests. The Riders have also forced the second-most turnovers (31) – including the most interceptions (14) – and the third-most points off turnovers (76). Edmonton has a -17 turnover ratio and has given up 30 sacks, giving Saskatchewan's defense plenty of upside.
