Tshiebwe said Wednesday that he will keep his name in the 2023 NBA Draft and forgo his remaining season of eligibility at Kentucky, Travis Branham of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2022 Naismith College Player of the Year likely would have had a lucrative NIL deal waiting for him if he elected to play his fifth season of college basketball with Kentucky, but he'll instead get a head start on his professional career, despite the fact that he's far from a lock to hear his name called on draft day. Though his numbers took a slight step back as a senior in 2022-23, Tshiebwe was still one of the nation's most dominant big men, as he averaged 16.5 points, 13.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks in 33.5 minutes per contest. With Tshiebwe moving on from Lexington, the Wildcats will likely be counting on Ugonna Onyenso and incoming freshman Aaron Bradshaw to handle most of the minutes at center in 2023-24.
