Bound for NBA
Bassey declared for the 2021 NBA Draft on Thursday with the intention of signing with an agent and forgoing his remaining eligibility at Western Kentucky, Jonathan Givony of ESPN.comreports.
ANALYSIS
Bassey was previously expected to leave school for the NBA following his freshman season in 2018-19, but he made a surprise decision to withdraw and return to Western Kentucky in 2019-20. He ended up suffering a fractured tibia early that season that sidelined him for the remainder of his sophomore campaign, with the injury prompting him to once again forgo the NBA last offseason. Bassey returned to full strength for his junior season and now appears ready to make the leap to the next level after he was better than ever in 2020-21, finishing with averages of 17.6 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.1 blocks in 30.4 minutes per contest over 28 appearances. He'll have a decent chance at hearing his name called in the first round of July's draft.
