I knew the Texans were a slam dunk in Survivor. Don't know why anyone would have sweated it when Matt Schaub gave up a pick-six down one with three minutes left. Actually it was one of the more harmless pick-sixes I've ever seen, since I think it was third and long, and had they punted, Tennessee would have gotten the ball back with great field possession and a chance to run out the clock. It's the flip side of letting the other team score so you can get the ball back.
Andre Johnson was absolutely unconscious on that play at the one-yard line that led to the tying score. Dude can make that catch in his sleep! Pretty crazy they initially called it no catch and no penalty after the defender hit him in the head, concussed him and then only got the ball away from him after he was down on the field.
Arian Foster looks healthy, and Ben Tate's strong play isn't a huge threat so long as Foster stays that way.
Gary Kubiak twice attempted 50-plus-yard field goals on fourth and short. Why are NFL coaches not required to study basic probability? The worst was Greg Schiano who attempted (and missed) and 47-yard field goal up one with a minute left against the Saints. If you want to be ballsy, go for it. If you want to be a coward, punt. But don't try the FG - that's beyond stupid.
DeAndre Hopkins is like Aaron Dobson with hands.
David Wilson will be a monster if he holds onto the ball and stays healthy. Be patient.
I might have under-projected Eddie Royal.
One interesting thing about the Chargers that only occurred to me once I say how tight the game was: on Monday night, their coach, Mike McCoy was profiled as a workout nut. He does some crazy pre-game routine, and I bet he got his team in good shape this summer, too. In other words, maybe it wasn't so surprising the Eagles couldn't run them out of the gym.
Julian Edelman made the best case against PPR scoring Thursday night with 13 catches on 18 targets for 78 yards. The guy averaged 4.3 YPT, didn't score, but managed 20.8 PPR points.
Aaron Dobson would have had a monster game if he could catch. Until Rob Gronkowski is 100 percent and Danny Amendola comes back, the Pats could need him, though.
Stephen Hill made some errors, but he also adjusted well to a deep ball in the air. There's upside here if Geno Smith continues to improve.
Knowshon Moreno actually looked explosive Sunday and not just reliable. Expect him to see the bulk of the work in the near term.
Speaking of which, there was an error before the late games saying Maurice Jones-Drew was a scratch. So I put Moreno in my lineup in two important leagues. Too bad I got wind of the correction. Even with Chad Henne, the Jaguars couldn't block anyone, and now Jones-Drew said he felt "looseness" in his ankle, the same foot on which he had the Lisfranc injury last year. Plus, Jacksonville is in Seattle this week.
During the Giants-Broncos game, Phil Simms remarked on how fast Victor Cruz looked and attributed it to him missing some of training camp due to his contact issues (and later he missed due to a heel injury). Setting aside that Simms is wrong nine times out of 10, why do teams even bother with training camp given that players get hurt, and they're fresher and faster when they miss it. Maybe training camp should be for fourth stringers and the starters can just work out and practice their timing. Of course, when RGIII is terrible, it's because he missed preseason games.
What a dud SEA-SF was. An hour delay and a million penalties for that slop? The other game with an hour delay (NO-TB) was equally bad. If the game is that crappy, just call it.
I doubt anyone will win the NFC East this year.
Aaron Rodgers is better in real life than Drew Brees, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. Fantasy, too.
Rashard Mendenhall still looks pretty quick, caught some passes and saw work at the goal line.
The Jaguars travel to Seattle in Week 3. Anyone want to guess where that line will go off? It opened around 16 before the SEA-SF game, but I think it'll end up close to 20. One Twitter follower @antborse suggested the O/U should be whatever the line is.
