Nearly two weeks ago I shared the results of my first mock auction for the 2012 season. Today we compare the results from the second mock auction, specifically at QB, which provides some interesting variances with regard to player value. Over the next few days we will do the same at RB, RE, TE, PK and TDSP.
As a reminder, this is a 10 team auction, with each team given $200 to draft a 14-man roster that includes 2 QB, 3 RB, 3 RE, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (RB, WR or TE), 1 PK, 1 TDSP and 2 RES.

This time around there was more emphasis placed on the running back and receiver positions, with fewer quarterbacks drafted. Gone were Ryan Fitzpatrick ($3), Matt Cassel ($2), Sam Bradford ($1), Alex Smith ($1), and Matt Flynn ($1), with only Andrew Luck ($4) and Mark Sanchez ($1) as newcomers.
Overall team spending on QB1s was almost identical, from $281 in draft one to $277 in draft two. There was little change at the top of the list, with Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Drew Brees again receiving the highest bids, which were virtually the same in both drafts. Matt Ryan and Cam Newton saw the biggest jumps in price, while Matthew Stafford and Matt Schaub took the biggest hits.
I can only assume that with less than two weeks between drafts some of these variances are the result of a few owners simply reacting to the latest updates, mostly contract related. After I run down the draft results at all positions I'm going to wait until early August, when pre-season games begin, before conducting the next mock auction draft to see how player values change.
Until then, please share your thoughts on these drafts, player values, or anything else that is on your mind heading in to the 2012 fantasy football season.
