-Hope everyone had a great holiday season and will continue to do so. Did you have a good or bad championship? Feel free to comment below.
-I'm not going to lie. I bought into the Rashad Jennings hype once there was even a thought that MJD was not going to play. For the record, at least more announcers than not called him "Rashard." It's like calling me Kelvin. The Jags should have gone to play-action more early in the game to keep the Redskins honest.
-I also bought into Rob Gronkowski. Many times (including a preseason blog) I wondered what one would do without the other (being Aaron Hernandez). The answer to that is 54 yards and two TDS, or 17 fantasy points. Brady's record 319 pass attempts (quick-surpassing who?) without an interception and his 34:4 TD:INT ratio is obviously outstanding. I'm still not sold on New England's defense, which could prove to be their undoing in the playoffs.
-Speaking of Brady's numbers, Josh Freeman has quietly put together a solid season. He's gone a little Brady-lite with 600 less passing yards with a 23:6 TD:INT ratio. He's also got 353 rushing yards and an overall 7.1 YPA. These are pretty solid numbers for a QB in only his second year.
-Fantasy owners must have hated it but Peyton Manning pulling a Brian Westbrook was absolutely the correct decision.
-There was a bunch of crazy stats from people (John Kuhn, the aforementioned Gronkowski, Jerome Simpson, Dominic Rhodes) you didn't start. Guys who had good days that I wouldn't consider fluky included Danario Alexander and Jared Cook I wouldn't forget either name next season.
-Given both their performances this week, I'm totally fine with the Chargers and Giants (possibly) missing the playoffs. Both teams at times looked like the best team in football and it seems like it was only yesterday that the Chargers fired a coach after going 14-2 in 2006. What's the difference between not winning in the playoffs and not making the playoffs?
-Is it time to buy into the Tim Tebow hype? I'm still skeptical that he can take a full season of punishment but you can't deny he's interesting to watch.
-I'm guessing a lot of fantasy championships are still to be decided with the Eagles, Saints and Falcons still yet to play.
-Darrius Heyward-Bey, Jacoby Ford and who? Run the fastest time at the combine in a few months and you're guaranteed to be wearing the silver and black next year.
-The Mike Singletary firing was long overdue. Remember how he started his coaching tenure by feuding with Vernon Davis, then Alex Smith and now Troy Smith? He'll catch on somewhere and make a solid defensive coordinator.
-What's happened to Anquan Boldin? He's averaging less than 39 receiving yards per game in eight games since the bye week with only two TDs.
-Ndamukong Suh is up to nine sacks. Hand him the DROY award; he was +450 before the season started to win this.
-Speaking of such wagers, Randy Moss was -25.5 yards vs. Miles Austin before the season started. The actual number as of today is 375 vs. 979 and I'm sure you can figure out which numbers go with which player.
-There's a strong correlation between Mark Sanchez targeting Dustin Keller and his success throwing the ball. Expect more of Keller going forward.
-My Bills have given the ball away 33 times this season but aren't close to the league-leading Giants, who have given it away 41 times.
-Given the number of teams needing QB help next year and a deep draft class, how many rookies will be under center come Week 1? Teams possibly interested in QB help include: Miami, Buffalo, Washington, Minnesota, Carolina, Arizona, Oakland and Cincinnati.
