Knowshon Moreno signed with the Broncos Friday. This means he'll have missed just 12 practices and gives him plenty of time to get acclimated before the start of the season, as running back is one of the easier positions to pick up. While the quarterback downgrade from Jay Cutler to Kyle Orton might hurt the Broncos offense as a whole, it could actually hasten Moreno's ascension to the full-time feature back role because coach Josh McDaniels has less to work with in the passing game and will be under pressure to get explosiveness from somewhere.
Percy Harvin has made a strong impression in training camp so far with several highlight deep catches and with the Vikings using him in the backfield in wildcat formations. With a good defense, top flight running attack and an established No. 1 receiver who's also their deep threat, the Vikings probably won't get Harvin the ball enough to be a difference maker in fantasy leagues. But if Peterson or Berrian get hurt, that could change.
For the second day in a row, Reggie Bush (knee) practiced in full for the Saints and reported no problems. Obviously, that's a good sign, but we'd like to see him cut and take some hits in the preseason games.
Julius Jones likes the new zone blocking scheme implemented by new head coach Jim Mora Jr. and should see a bulk of the Seahawks carries this season. It's easy to write off veteran running backs who haven't done much recently, but so much of a back's success depends on the system and cohesion of his teammates. Jones' brother, Thomas, is a good example as he was abysmal behind a bad Jets line in 2007 and very good behind their solid one last season.
Jeremy Maclin has impressed during just two days of Eagles' training camp. He'll start the season as the team's No. 3 wideout, but Andy Reid will spread the ball around and wasn't shy about getting DeSean Jackson heavily involved as a rookie last season. The Eagles throw enough to field three productive wideouts, and while Jackson has been brilliant at times, neither he nor Kevin Curtis is established enough that Maclin couldn't outshine them over the course of the season.
