The 80s are considered the modern Golden Age of basketball, when every contender sported multiple Hall of Famers. Free agency and the salary cap were supposed to prevent this from ever happening again. But this offseason has NBA fans partying like it's 1986.
The Lakers, Celtics, Cavaliers, Spurs, and Magic were the five best teams in the NBA last season when healthy. This offseason, the five of them seem to be having an arms race to see who can power up the most for next season. In the days since the season ended, we have seen:
The Lakers exchange Trevor Ariza for Ron Artest.
The Cavaliers swap Ben Wallace for Shaquille O'Neal.
The Spurs add Richard Jefferson (plus the presumed return to health of Manu Ginobili).
The Magic acquire Vince Carter (though they've lost several key pieces, including Hedo Turkoglu and have some holes to fill).
And now, the Boston newspapers are reporting that Rasheed Wallacewill be coming to join the Celtics.
It is only July, and I am already AMPED for this season to begin. I love this game!
