Mack signed a two-year contract Thursday with Italian club Olimpia Milano, Eurohoops.net reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old will head to Europe for the first time after an eight-year run in the NBA that included stops with seven organizations. After averaging 7.5 points, 3.2 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 21.9 minutes per game over 57 appearances between the Hornets and Grizzlies in 2018-19, Mack failed to attract much interest from teams in free agency this offseason. He'll thus continue his career overseas, though he could make the jump back to the NBA at some point if a team is interested in bringing him in as a backup point guard.

The Grizzlies are Mack’s third team in as many seasons, but his numbers have been fairly consistent regardless of setting. Mack actually played 14 more games last season than he had in 2016-17, but he averaged just over two fewer minutes per game (19.8, as compared to 21.9). While he saw a slight drop in scoring average (7.8 to 6.9), Mack dished out the second-most assists of his career (3.9 per contest). He’s proven to be a solid ball handler and facilitator throughout his career with an ability to provide some scoring punch off the bench, which is exactly the role he projects for in the coming season. Mack is expected to serve as Mike Conley’s primary backup, although Andrew Harrison, who showed considerable improvement last season, could certainly battle him for minutes.
Mack, between injuries and DNP-CDs, appeared in just 55 games for the Jazz last season. He usually saw a significant workload and managed solid production when he did take the floor, however, posting 7.8 points, 2.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds across 21.9 minutes per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 37-for-120 (30.8 percent) from beyond the arc. That production was seemingly enough for the Magic to sign Mack to a two-year, $12 million deal over the offseason. The 27-year-old will likely be competing with reserve guard D.J. Augustin for backup minutes behind starter Elfrid Payton. As a result, it would be somewhat surprising if he matched his workload from last season, though it ultimately depends on how he performs relative to Augustin. With that in mind, Mack can probably be ignored in the vast majority of Fantasy formats due to a murky path to significant minutes.
In his fourth NBA season, Mack averaged 5.4 points, 1.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.5 steals in 15 minutes per game through 55 regular season games in 2014-15. He shot 40 percent from the field, 32 percent from beyond the arc, and 81 percent from the free-throw line. Mack, who turned 25 in April, suffered a separated shoulder in the playoffs, posting 3.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and 0.8 steals in 10 minutes per game through 10 postseason games. Though he expects to return from injury in time for training camp, there simply aren't many minutes behind Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroder, leaving only a limited role for Mack, who is under team control through 2016-17.
Mack plays the "steady veteran backup" role in Atlanta's backcourt. It's sort of remarkable, considering the fact that Mack is just 24 years old and has played for four teams in his first three seasons as a pro, but he earned that distinction by stepping up for an injury-depleted Hawks team last season. As primary backup to Jeff Teague, Mack set new career bests in games played (73), minutes (20.4), points (7.5), boards (2.2), assists (3.7), steals (0.7), and was very steady from the free-throw line (87 percent). That performance moved him off the "much-traveled journeyman" career path and earned him a three-year contract to stay in Atlanta. He'll begin the season pretty firmly established as the second man on the point guard depth chart.
Mack is the slightly-older, steady answer to Schroder's high-ceiling foreign prospect. He won't wow anyone with his skill set, but seems to show just enough to continue to earn an NBA roster spot. Last year, he spent time with three different squads and produced solid numbers on the rare occasion when he saw the floor. An ever-evolving jumper will be the key to his success.
Mack could be one of the beneficiaries of Wall's injury to start the season. He did not help his stock, though, after struggling during Summer League play. Drafted as a backup to Wall, he will be battling Price and Pargo for minutes. It will be an important period for Mack to show his talents to either stay with the Wizards or be showcased for another team. To start the season, he could see an increase in his output from the 2012-13 season, when he posted 3.6 points and 2.0 assists in 12.2 minutes per game.
A rookie out of Butler University, Mack is the third point guard on the Wizards. When Wall is out, there will usually be two shooting guards on the floor, with Crawford bringing the ball up the court. So Mack’s minutes will be limited.
