Jones was born July 21, 1998 in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in DeSoto, Texas and didn't play basketball until his senior year of high school. He played a year at Link Year Prep between high school and college. The 6-foot-4 guard played his freshman year at Connors State College, where he averaged 15.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He then transferred to Arkansas. As a sophomore, he averaged 13.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists. His role increased as a junior, where Jones averaged 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 33.8 minutes. He was named SEC Player of the Year and made the AP All-American Honorable Mention team. Jones entered the NBA Draft after that season and went undrafted.
