Podziemski enjoyed a solid rookie year with the Warriors, averaging 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, but more importantly, he started 28 games (out of 74 appearances) and logged a solid 26.6 minutes per game. Things are on the upside trajectory for Podziemski, as the Warriors parted ways with Klay Thompson in the offseason, so the second-year guard is likely to open the season as the starting shooting guard while Buddy Hield comes off the bench. Scoring aside, Podziemski has already proven himself to be one of the best rebounding guards in the NBA, trailing only Luka Doncic, Josh Hart and Josh Giddey in the category last season. The uptick in minutes and more significant role should translate to Podziemski averaging double-digit points for the first time in his career, especially if he's able to maintain the same efficiency levels he showed as a rookie -- he shot 45.4 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range. Maintaining efficiency while experiencing an uptick in volume will be vital to preserving his fantasy upside. Still, unless Podziemski suffers a massive regression, he's primed to be a solid -- if not better -- fantasy asset in all categories as Stephen Curry's teammate in the Warriors' backcourt. Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Brandin Podziemski has rapidly emerged as a top-60 prospect after averaging just 4.1 minutes per game across 16 contests with Illinois as a freshman. Transferring to Santa Clara led to serious scoring and impressive accolades for Podziemski. Donned the WCC co-Player of the Year, Podziemski averaged 19.9 points on 48/44/77 percent shooting. He's also an elite rebounder for a guard, racking up 8.8 rebounds per game to go along with 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals. Podziemski is a versatile contributor, but the selling point is a smooth stroke from beyond the arc, though his relatively short wingspan will make it tougher to get his shot off in the NBA. Santa Clara has been a reliable NBA pipeline of late, with Jalen Williams illustrating that Podziemski's big numbers aren't just fluff. His shooting is impressive, and he finished with 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in his scrimmage at the Combine. Being small in size and stature is a concern for Podziemski, who has demonstrated a knack for initiating contact (4.5 FTA/g). Drawing fouls and canning threes is a good recipe for success if the former can translate. Some combination of rebounding prowess, reliable passing and tolerable defense will also need to translate. That said, Podziemski's shooting sets him up as a bench scorer and sparkplug. A role of 10-15 minutes per night is realistically Podziemski's usage in year one. His rebounding skills are very Josh Hart-esque. Damion Lee comes to mind as another comparison.

X-rays on Podziemski's nose came back negative after Wednesday's 120-97 win over the Hawks, and coach Steve Kerr said Podziemski is day-to-day, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS Podziemski was hit in the face late in Wednesday's game, which was particularly concerning because he broke his nose during the preseason. However, Podziemski has avoided another break and doesn't seem to be at risk of a long-term absence. Podziemski finished the contest with three points (1-6 FG, 1-1 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists and a steal across 15 minutes. His next chance to play will come Friday at New Orleans for the first game of a back-to-back set.

Two-way battle for starting role
GGolden State Warriors
October 15, 2024
Podziemski is competing for the Warriors' starting shooting guard role to open the 2024-25 season, according to Kendra Andrews of ESPN.
ANALYSIS Buddy Hield is set to operate as the sixth man, so the Warriors have to decide between Podziemski or De'Anthony Melton to pair with Stephen Curry in the backcourt. Even though Melton provides a better option from a defensive perspective, Podziemski has the experience of playing alongside Curry, as he made 28 starts across 74 regular-season contests with Golden State as a rookie in 2023-24. Podziemski is currently dealing with a broken nose, but it's not expected to impact his availability for the regular season.
