This summer the Celtics drafted Scheierman with the 30th overall pick in the NBA Draft. At the time, it was assumed the plan was to groom Scheierman as a replacement for pending free agent Sam Hauser. But in late July, Hauser signed a four-year extension to stay in Boston. Regardless, Scheierman will have a tough time as a rookie cracking Boston's NBA championship rotation. The Celtics essentially return last year's winning roster, except for the departure of reserves Oshae Brissett and Svi Mykhailiuk. Those departures free up only a handful of minutes for Scheierman and the younger Jaden Springer. Expect to see the 23-year-old Scheierman split his time between Boston and the Maine Celtics, much like Hauser did in 2021-22. As for playing time, anything north of nine minutes per game at the NBA level would be shocking. Read Past Outlooks
$Signed a two-year, $5.11 million contract with the Celtics in July of 2024. Contract includes $2.74 million team option for 2026-27.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Scheierman played five years at the college level for two different programs. He spent his first three years with South Dakota State in the Summit League before transferring to Creighton to compete in one of the country's toughest conferences in the Big East. Scheierman started in each of his appearances in the last three seasons, and he had his best season in 2023-24, averaging a career-high 18.5 points while adding 9.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists across a career-high 36.8 minutes per contest. He was named to the 2023-24 All-Big East First Team. Scheierman will be a wing at the next level, though it remains to be seen whether he'll be more utilized as a shooting guard or a small forward. He's equally adept at playing both positions, though he possesses above-average size if deployed in the backcourt. He proved to be a versatile, do-it-all kind of player during his last two years in college. While being a jack-of-all-trades type of player should boost his draft stock, he also turned heads due to his offensive arsenal, particularly his deep shooting range and his efficiency from beyond the arc. His size allows him to profile as an above-average rebounder for a guard, though he's not on a Josh Hart level. He hasn't been able to develop too much on the defensive end of the court, and since he's not an elite athlete, he could have problems defending quick guards and bigger players. However, he's an excellent shooter with a deep offensive skill set, and that should be enough to carve him a role in today's NBA. Scheierman has excellent size for a shooting guard and an above-average shooting form, which should be enough to give him a role in today's NBA. However, projecting his future role will be tied to what he can do defensively. If he develops enough to be at least average defensively, then his shooting could take him a long way, even becoming a regular starter - similar to Kevin Huerter. However, if his defensive game doesn't get up to speed, then his role will be less clear and could be limited to a spot shooter, which might limit the longevity of his career in the long run.
ANALYSIS With Sam Hauser iffy for Monday's game in Orlando due to a back issue, Scheierman could be called upon as an emergency depth option for his perimeter shooting. In his most recent appearance for Maine on Sunday, Scheierman posted 22 points (6-16 FG, 3-12 3Pt, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block in 35 minutes in a 121-104 win over the Motor City Cruise.

Candidate for rotation role
GBoston Celtics
September 13, 2024
Scheierman could have a fair shot at winning a rotation spot for the Celtics ahead of the 2024-25 regular season, Jared Weiss of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS The Celtics could make changes to their rotation ahead of the 2024-25 season, and a few young players could start seeing regular minutes off the bench to complement the team's championship core. Scheierman averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game with Creighton during the 2023-24 college season, and while he won't replicate those numbers at the NBA level, he can deliver solid depth in the frontcourt while stretching the floor with his solid shooting.
