Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Hailing from Vilnius, Lithuania, Azuolas Tubelis enters the NBA draft after three successful seasons at Arizona. His junior campaign was the best yet, with the big man delivering 19.8 points per game after averaging 13.9 in 2021-22. Tubelis Notched eight games with at least 25 points and 14 double-doubles across 34 starts. His strong campaign earned second-team All-American honors, as well as his second consecutive appearance on First-team All-Pac-12. Tubelis also boasts an impressive resume from his time thus far on the FIBA youth circuit for his native Lithuania. Tubelis is one of the best transition big men in the country. Although he stands at just 6-foot-9, his post-up game is another key component of his offense, as he ranked in the 85th percentile by averaging 1.034 points per possession on the block. His offensive and defensive rebounding rates also ranked highly, each falling within the top 160 players nationwide. Tubelis has active hands defensively and thrives when he can turn defense into offense. Tubelis will be undersized at the NBA level. Despite his statistical rebounding prowess and overall athleticism, the post-up game doesn't carry much merit, and he profiles as a potential defensive liability. That being said, Tubelis' ability to run the floor and lead the offense in transition will put pressure on opposing defenses. If his rebounding translates or he becomes a credible floor spacer (10-32 3Pt in 2022-23), Tubelis has enough skill to make an impact in the league.
ANALYSIS Tubelis joined the 76ers on a two-way contract in June but was unable to earn a spot on the team's final roster. He'll part ways with the organization after the 76ers signed Ricky Council to a two-way deal Wednesday.
