Michael Gbinije

In an effort to bolster their depth on the wing, the Pistons grabbed Gbinije, a 24-year-old senior out of Syracuse, with the 49th overall pick. Gbinije would go on to miss most of summer league play with a sprained right ankle, but didn't go without any competitive action heading into training camp, as he later joined the Nigerian national team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He looks to be in good shape to make the Pistons' roster out of training camp after signing a rookie-scale contract with the club, but don't look for Gbinije to see much action off the bench this season with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Marcus Morris, Stanley Johnson, Reggie Bullock and Darrun Hilliard all ranking ahead of him in the pecking order for playing time on the wing. Instead, Gbinije figures to see extensive time with the D-League's Grand Rapids Drive, where he'll look to develop other areas of his game beyond his three-point shooting, which he counts as his primary skill. Over his last two seasons of college, Gbinije hit nearly 40 percent of his tries from long distance.
