2024 Fantasy Outlook
Last season, Bogdanovic recorded his highest number of starts (33) since his rookie campaign in 2017-18, and that translated to several career-high numbers such as minutes (30.4), points (16.9) and steals (1.2) per game. Bogdanovic is primed to open the 2024-25 campaign as a starter in the Hawks' backcourt alongside Trae Young, and the former should benefit from Dejounte Murray's departure. Bogdanovic is likely to operate as the Hawks' third- or fourth-best option, presumably behind Young, Jalen Johnson and maybe Zaccharie Risacher. However, that shouldn't limit Bogdanovic's fantasy upside a great deal. He'll retain decent fantasy value across all formats as long as he continues to operate in a starting role, something that's not expected to change any time soon. Considering he's drained at least 37 percent of his three-point attempts in four of his last five seasons, Bogdanovic could be particularly valuable as a fantasy asset in category-based leagues. Regardless of the format, he should be an intriguing option in the mid-to-late rounds of most drafts. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Bogdan Bogdanovic is the son of Koviljka and Dragan Bogdanovic and has a sister, Bojana. He was born in 1992 in Belgrade, Serbia. Bogdanovic played on many prominent junior league teams in the Belgrade area before signing his first professional agreement with KK Partizan of the Adriatic Basketball Association. He then played for the Turkish squad Fenerbahce. In the summer of 2019, Bogdanovic participated in the NBPA's "Branding in the Global Economy" program, which was held at SDA Bocconi School of Management and helps current NBA players gain international insight and experience in management and business. Bogdanovic is a big fan of the video-games series World of Warcraft. Fans can follow the veteran on Twitter (@LeaderOfHorde) and Instagram (bogdanbogdanovic). As an 18-year-old, Bogdanovic started his professional career by signing with Partizan Belgrade of the Adriatic Basketball Association in 2010. He didn't play much during his first two years with the club. In 2012-13, he made his EuroLeague debut and averaged 5.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assist over 18 minutes per game. In 2013-14, Bogdanovic was a starter for Partizan. Over 23 EuroLeague games, the wing generated 14.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest. Bogdanovic then signed with the Turkish team Fenerbahce. He led Fenerbahce to the Turkish Super League Finals titles in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Bogdanovic was named the Turkish Super League Finals MVP in 2017. The Belgrade, Serbia native led Fenerbahce in scoring in the playoffs with 125 points in seven games that season. In the 15-16 season, Bogdanovic led Fenerbahce in scoring during the regular season with 414 points in 29 games. He was a two-time Turkish League All Star in 2016 and 2017. Bogdanovic was drafted in the 2014 NBA draft in the first round (27th overall) by the Phoenix Suns. His draft rights were traded to the Sacramento Kings during the 2016 NBA draft.

The Hawks announced that Bogdanovic (hamstring) underwent a non-surgical procedure Monday and will be re-evaluated in approximately four weeks.
ANALYSIS
Bogdanovic has missed Atlanta's last three games while dealing with right hamstring tendinopathy but has now undergone a medical procedure to fix the issue. With Vit Krejci (adductor) and Kobe Bufkin (shoulder) also out for significant periods, Dyson Daniels (hip) and Garrison Mathews are candidates to receive increased playing time. At the earliest, Bogdanovic will be able to return to action in December.

Bogdanovic has handled increased touches at times throughout his career, but those opportunities are rare, making it tough to consistently roster him in fantasy. It's easy to understand why, though, with Trae Young and Dejounte Murray swallowing up usage and guard minutes in Atlanta. That leaves crumbs for Bogdanovic, playing fewer than 28 minutes a game last year. That's his lowest total since his sophomore season, with the Serbian never reaching 30 minutes in any season throughout his career. The statistical drop-off from last season is a concern, too, averaging 14 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.8 steals and 2.7 three-pointers per game. All of those averages are some of the lowest of his career, and it's hard to see him getting much better with so much usage ahead of him on the depth chart. With all that said, he's one of the best handcuffs in fantasy behind Murray and Young. In nine starts last year, Bogdan averaged 16.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 3.3 threes on 51 percent shooting. Those numbers would make him a must-roster player, but the season-long numbers in a bench role won't get it done.
Bogdanovic started the 2021-22 season as a starter but eventually ended as a bench piece, playing 36 of his 63 regular-season contests and his six playoff appearances with the second unit. Regardless of the role, Bogdanovic had another strong season. The veteran averaged 15.1 points per game, making it the third year in a row in which he averaged at least 15 points per game while adding 4.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per tilt. Efficiency has always been one of Bogdanovic's calling cards, but he took a step back since he shot 43.1 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point range in 2021-22. While those are not awful numbers, they were his lowest shooting percentages of the past three seasons. Bogdanovic should still hold a sizable role off the bench for the Hawks in 2022-23, providing that he can fully recover from his kneecap injury, and it would be wise to expect him in a steady bench role now that the backcourt duo will be Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. Bogdanovic could be a decent late-round pick in 12-team or 14-team leagues, but he could also be seen as a solid streaming option in shallower formats.
Leg injuries limited Bogdanovic to 44 games last season, but he played very well in his debut campaign with the Hawks. He played a super-sixth-man role, seeing 29.7 minutes per game and averaging career highs in points (16.4), rebounds (3.6), steals (1.1), field-goal percentage (47.3), three-point percentage (43.8), made threes (3.3) and free-throw percentage (90.9). Unsurprisingly, that resulted in Bogdanovic finishing with the best per-game fantasy rank (63) of his career -- the first time he's finished inside the top 100. The 20-year-old was especially efficient as a long-mid-range shooter (38-of-71, 54%) and a corner three-point shooter (42-of-78, 54%). Fantasy managers shouldn't expect a major change of pace for Bogdanovic in 2021-22. It's possible better health from his teammates -- namely De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish -- could result in Bogdanovic seeing a slightly reduced workload, but he should still finish inside the top 100 again. That said, his ceiling isn't especially high, so fantasy managers shouldn't feel a need to snipe him early in drafts. He'll likely be a common selection in the seventh round or later.
Bogdanovic's 2019-20 campaign was very similar to his 2018-19 season, with the versatile wing averaging 15.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.7 threes and 1.0 steals in 29.0 minutes. He improved his efficiency from the field (44.0) and from three (37.3), but his free-throw percentage (74.1) fell. In fantasy, he ranked just outside of the top-100 for the second straight season. Heading into 2020-21, the 28-year-old finds himself on a new team, as he signed a four-year, $72 million contract to join the Hawks. Bogdanovic is likely to start at shooting guard for the revamped Hawks, who clearly have playoff aspirations. Given how much the Hawks paid to get Bogdanovic on the roster, we shouldn't be surprised if he crosses the 30-minute threshold with the team. When seeing at least 30 minutes last season, he averaged 19.0 points, 3.9 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 threes and 1.4 steals. Those numbers might be a little too high for Bogdanovic to reach, but at the same time, Atlanta plays fast and doesn't project to have a great defense. Ultimately, he's in a good opportunity to cross the top-100 threshold in fantasy for the first time in his career.
After starting 53 games during his rookie season, Bogdanovic started only 17 games during the 2018-19 campaign. Still, he had a substantial role by averaging 28 minutes per night. With the Kings playing at an up-tempo pace and his increased usage rate of 22.3 percent, he was able to average 14.1 points and 1.9 three-pointers per contest. On the downside, his increased shot attempts resulted in his shooting percentage dropping to 41.8 percent. While not a major factor in other areas, his respectable averages of 3.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.0 steal made him a viable fantasy asset. The problem for him heading into this season is the Kings' deep depth chart. Minutes at small forward figure to be hard for him to come by with Harrison Barnes and Trevor Ariza now in the fold. Bogdanovic should be the primary backup at shooting guard behind Buddy Hield, but it's not unreasonable to think that he could have a decline in both playing time and usage rate this season.
Bogdanovic, the 27th overall pick in 2014, played his first year in the NBA last season after spending time overseas. During the first year of a three-year, $27 million contract, the 25-year-old appeared in 78 games and drew 53 starts. He essentially played a sixth-man role, garnering 27.9 minutes per night. In that time, Bogdanovic averaged 11.8 points, 3.3 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. Notably, he was a quality three-point shooter, hitting 1.7 threes per contest at 39.2 percent. In addition to his upside as a scorer (eight performances with at least 20 points), Bogdanovic showed potential as a passer. He posted 18 games with at least five dimes, including a 10-assist effort. And, though he averaged less than a steal, he managed to rack up five contests with 3-plus swipes. His play would suggest he’s worthy of more run this season, though with Buddy Hield and Justin Jackson still in the mix, it’s unclear how each player’s role will shake out. The idea of No. 2 overall pick Marvin Bagley playing small forward has also been publicly thrown around, which would complicate things further for Bogdanovic.
Bogdanovic will play in the NBA for the first time this upcoming season after being drafted in 2014 by the Suns with the 27th overall pick. Through a trade in the summer of 2016, his rights ended up with the Kings, who had enough faith in the 24-year-old to sign him to a three-year, $30 million contract in July 2017. Last season, with Turkish club Fenerbahce, Bogdanovich posted 14.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists across 27.9 minutes per game while drilling 43.0 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc. Though the 6-foot-6 shooting guard will be competing for playing time in the loaded Kings backcourt, his hefty rookie contract combined with the fact that the team let Ben McLemore walk without protest suggests the Sacramento brass is anticipating him being a legitimate contributor. That said, his role likely won't be fully determined until training camp concludes. For that reason, he should probably be viewed cautiously from a Fantasy perspective, as his workload is far from set in stone and he still has to adjust to the NBA game.
Signed a three-year, $30-million contract with the Kings in June of 2017.

Not keen on return to Serbia
GAtlanta Hawks
September 23, 2024
Bogdanovic is not eyeing a return to Partizan despite being spotted wearing training gear from the Serbian club, he told Serbian outlet Mozzart Sport, according to BasketNews.
ANALYSIS
Partizan was Bogdanovic's first team when he entered professional basketball in 2010, and he played four seasons there before moving on to Fenerbahce and eventually the NBA in 2017. Bogdanovic is expected to have a prominent role with Atlanta this season, so it seems highly unlikely that he'd entertain options overseas.
