Motiejunas agreed to terms in July on a contract with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association, Nicola Lupo of Sportando.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Motiejunas played in the CBA for the past two seasons with Shandong Golden Stars, so he's no stranger to the Chinese game. After his most recent CBA campaign ended, the 28-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Spurs in the spring, but appeared in just three regular-season contests. Motiejunas was unable to parlay his stint with the Spurs into a new deal or contract offers from other NBA teams, so he'll look to impress overseas again before potentially returning stateside next spring.

Motiejunas missed the final 11 games of the season with a back injury, finishing his third NBA season with averages of 12.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks in 29 minutes per game. Motiejunas showed several flashes of excellence in his expanded role, starting 62 games while the Rockets dealt with injuries to Terrence Jones and Dwight Howard. Even after the addition of Josh Smith, Motiejunas' production remained steady. He was especially productive in January, putting up 13.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting better than 56 percent from the field and 44 percent from three. For the season, the versatile Lithuanian posted a career-high three-point percentage (37 percent). He also improved his post-up game, finishing with both hands and shooting 64 percent around the rim. While he won't beat out a healthy Howard for the starting center role, Motiejunas will compete with Jones for the starting power forward designation. Capable of playing both spots, Motiejunas, assuming he's healthy, should see significant minutes on a nightly basis, particularly with Josh Smith now in Los Angeles.
In the second season of his career, Motiejunas stayed pretty consistent with the numbers he posted in his rookie season. With a slight increase in minutes per game from 12 to 15, Motiejunas ended up averaging 5.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks. He also stayed consistent with his field goal percentage, finishing the season at 44 percent and shot fairly decent for a big man outside the three-point arc with a 25-percent three-point percentage. Motiejunas will probably be used at both the center and power forward position this season, and he'll be relied upon to keep Dwight Howard fresh throughout the season. With the departure of Omer Asik, Motiejunas is in for a highly extended role from his two previous seasons, and he'll have a huge increase in his minutes per game. With a heavy increase in minutes, it's almost assured Motiejunas will increase his point, rebound, assist, and block numbers from last season and get consistent playing time as a key reserve. Going into his third season, the Rockets will need him to be much improved in order to have the depth to make a deep playoff run this season.
Motiejunas is the typical Euro big man - not much of a rebounder or shot blocker, but can stretch the floor by knocking down the three. He could be a good fit alongside Howard, however, as he can play away from the basket.
The lean seven-footer played in Poland last year, where he shot the three and blocked a few shots. He'll have a chance for minutes behind Omer Asik on a young Rockets team.
