Henderson served as the starting shooting guard for the better part of six seasons with the Hornets, but with C.J. McCollum ahead of him on the depth chart in Portland last season, the veteran was forced to transition to a full-time bench role for the first time since his rookie year. As expected, the move to the second unit resulted in a steep decline in both Henderson’s playing time and his overall statistical production. Henderson averaged a mere 8.7 points in 19.9 minutes per game, but did at least exhibit some growth as a sniper from downtown. Despite averaging nine minutes fewer than he did a year prior, Henderson’s 136 three-point tries tied his number of attempts from 2014-15, and his 35.3 percent conversion rate was the best of his career. Now 28 years old and with his athleticism likely trending downward, Henderson figures to spend more time camping out behind the arc in the seasons to come, which should suit the shooting-needy 76ers just fine. The team inked Henderson, a local product who was a prep star in Pennsylvania, to a two-year, $18 million contract in July. He’ll presumably reclaim his familiar spot in the starting five, but Hollis Thompson and Nik Stauskas could pose threats to Henderson’s minutes while coming off the bench.
