ANALYSIS
Watson last appeared in the NBA with the Magic in 2016-17, averaging 4.5 points and 1.8 assists across 16.3 minutes, before being cut by the team in July of 2017. It seems unlikely the 33-year-old will attempt to make an NBA comeback.

After spending the last two years with the Indiana Pacers, Watson arrived in Orlando this offseason by way of a three-year, $15 million contract. Hampered by foot injuries throughout his stay in the Hickory State, the 31-year-old point guard played 63 games last season and averaged 10.0 points, 3.6 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.0 steal, and 1.2 three-pointers per game as George Hill's backup. He shot 43 percent from the field, 40 percent from beyond the three-point line, and 83 percent from the free-throw line. On all four franchises during his career, Watson has never been the primary point guard, and there were stretches last season when he was outplayed by journeyman Donald Sloan. An offensive sparkplug, Watson is prone to streaky shooting and defensive lapses. Nevertheless, the eight-year veteran is a career 38-percent three-point marksman, and his sufficient perimeter defense can lead to a substantial reserve role under the Magic's new head coach Scott Skiles.
In his first season with the Pacers in 2013-14, Watson averaged 6.6 points and 1.7 assists over 19 minutes per game, serving primarily as the backup to point guard George Hill. He started five games last season when Hill was on the shelf but also missed a handful of games due to elbow, hamstring, and hip ailments. There could be room for an uptick in minutes for Watson this season, with Lance Stephenson – who typically served as the point guard in the team's second unit – has departed via free agency to the Charlotte Hornets. As a result, Watson could eventually serve as a cheap source of assists and three-pointers in deeper formats.
Watson will serve as an insurance policy to starting point guard George Hill this season and will play a role in improving the Pacers' weak bench scoring from last season. Coach Frank Vogel may also look to move him over to shooting guard at times, which will help increase the six-year veteran's minutes.
A shrewd pickup for the Nets, Watson was effective but erratic at times in two years with Chicago, but proved on more than one occasion that he could handle a full load if need be - something he was required to do during Derrick Rose's injury-plagued 2011. He averaged 9.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 0.9 swipes in just over 23 minutes per game last year, and fantasy owners can expect him to post similar numbers backing up another of the league's top point guards in Williams.
Watson will once again backup both guard spots but see most of his action at the point. He showed he is a better scorer than passer, so expect to see some big games mixed amongst ones where he provides minimal production.
Watson will back up at both guard spots. He will see most of his time behind Rose but will be used in tandem with Rose at times to push the ball up the floor. That said, Watson is a better scorer than passer, so expect to see some big games mixed amongst ones where he provides minimal production.
Watson rejected a three-year contract from the Warriors this summer and opted to sign a one-year deal that will make him an unrestricted free-agent at the end of next year. The contract rejection could be a sign that Watson is unhappy with his role with the team as he enters the season in a fight for backup point guard minutes with rookie Stephen Curry. Watson averaged 9.5 points and 2.7 assists last year but could have problems getting consistent quality minutes in the Warriors' crowded backcourt.
