Amundson, a nine-year veteran of the NBA, played a career-high 21 minutes per game last season on the lowly Knicks. If you're a seasoned fantasy basketball player, there's probably not much more that needs to be said. Minutes are king in fantasy basketball. If a player doesn't get enough minutes, they can't get the stats they need to be valuable in fantasy. For standard leagues, most players have to play at least 26 minutes per game to have enough opportunity to collect fantasy-relevant production. Amundson isn't the kind of player who gets 26 mpg, and that's not going to change this season. In his career season, Amundson averaged 6.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.5 steals, and 1.6 blocks. The blocks numbers are impressive, and it makes you wonder what kind of production Amundson would put up if he were getting big minutes, but that's not going to happen on the Knicks this season. They signed Robin Lopez to start at center, and they'll have a tandem of rookie Kristaps Porzingis and veteran Kyle O'Quinn holding down the rest of the frontcourt minutes most nights. Amundson has an awesome Steven Seagal ponytail, so it's disappointing that he doesn't get more facetime on TV, but the fact remains that he is a role player, and he'll only be of use in the deepest of leagues this season.
