ANALYSIS
Morrison made a spirited run at a roster spot with the Trail Blazers during last season's training camp but ultimately came up short in what was perhaps his last chance at reaching the NBA. The former No. 3 overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft retires with career averages of 7.5 points and 2.1 rebounds over parts of three NBA seasons with the Bobcats and Lakers.

Morrison's pro career has sputtered since his much-heralded college days ended. A torn ACL set him back significantly following his rookie season. He still remains a defensive liability, and until that improves, won't see the floor time he might deserve offensively.
Morrison returns after missing all of 2007-08 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He’s back and working out, but still has trouble with changing directions. Defensively, Morrison isn’t a whiz, so he’ll have to use his scoring ability from the perimeter to find minutes. And he’ll have to show better percentages than his rookie season (37.6% FG, 33.7% from three). Right now, knocking down shots is a skill better provided by shooting guard Matt Carroll, so let others bid for/select Morrison in fantasy auctions and drafts.
The third overall pick a year ago, Morrison never responded to being a reserve and lost the scoring touch that made him a college legend. He averaged just 11.8 points in almost 30 minutes a game last year and shot just 37.6 percent from the floor while serving as a swing-player off the bench. Matt Carroll took his place as the team's top scorer off the bench and will fill that role again. This may be a make-or-break season for Morrison going forward, because if he's not going to score, he's a liability as a defender and rebounder.
Morrison put up all-world numbers at Gonzaga, averaging 28.1 pts, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 threes a game while leading the Zags to a 29-4 record. At 6-8, he has the size to get his shot whenever he wants to, and he should see plenty of playing time with the hapless Bobcats. He could come off the bench backing up Gerald Wallace or could start at small forward if the Bobcats opt to play Wallace at shooting guard. Either way, on a team devoid of pure shooters, Morrison should get plenty of opportunities to score and could be a decent source for points and threes.
