Marks should only see time in a mop-up role. When Stoudemire leaves the floor, the Suns are very comfortable playing without a true center. Marks has size but only played in three games last season.
Marks, a seven-foot New Zealander on the wrong side of 30, hasn't seen his playing time go much over 10 minutes per game since 2001-02. He adds depth and size, but isn't likely to fill in many minutes.
When the Spurs re-signed Marks in the offseason, coach Gregg Popovich cited how important the forward/center is “to the chemistry of our team.” That’s usually an indication of a player’s fantasy value, too. If he’s a chemistry guy, he’ll likely have little fantasy value. Although it’s not always so, it’s the case with Marks and the Spurs. He’ll be fourth string at both power forward and center.
Marks will begin training camp way down the depth chart. There are just too many proven bodies ahead of him to make any fantasy impact in 2003-04.
