December 28, 2020
Santana has been dealt to the Cubs along with right-hander Zach Davies and three other prospects in exchange for Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Santana showcased some promise while playing in the Arizona League in 2019, slashing .346/.429/.494 with five homers, three triples and 30 RBI. The 20-year-old still has a lot to prove as a prospect, but he has a high ceiling that could lead to progression through the Cubs' system in the coming years.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
Santana signed with the Padres during the 2017 J-2 period for $300,000. In two seasons at rookie ball, he's posted 125 and 150 wRC+ marks, respectively. Though he didn't get any official work in during the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Santana recently made the news as part of the return in the Yu Darvish deal. Now part of a Cubs farm system that's trending up, scouts believe Santana has both the arm and fielding ability to stick at shortstop long-term. At the dish, Santana has a strong contact profile that should limit his strikeouts as he rises levels. Entering his age-20 season, Santana still has room to fill out his current 170-pound frame with strength to add more power to his game. Santana has steadily moved up prospect rankings thanks to his hit tool and above-average speed. The typical caveats apply to a young prospect still a few seasons from the big leagues.
