Back in action at Round Rock
3BTexas Rangers
April 26, 2022
Apostel has appeared in three games for Triple-A Round Rock since returning from a knee injury, going 3-for-12 with a solo home run, a double and a walk in those contests.
ANALYSIS
After debuting for Round Rock on April 5, Apostel was sidelined for two weeks before re-entering the lineup April 19. He's expected to play first base on a near-everyday basis for Round Rock now that he's healthy again.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
2019
Apostel got his feet wet in the big leagues during the 2020 season, collecting two hits (one double) and a walk in 21 plate appearances before missing the remainder of the regular season with a minor back issue. The 21-year-old slugger will be exciting to watch heading into spring camp, as he's generated impressive raw power during his time in the minors. He had a 23.8 LD% at High-A in 2019 to go with a 29.8 FB%, a rare feat for a young power hitter. He also took the ball to all fields, finishing with a 40.7 Pull% and 29.1 Oppo%. Look for Apostel to compete for a bench role with the Rangers in 2021, though it wouldn't be surprising at all to see him begin the year in the minors. Texas appears to be grooming him to become its future first baseman.
Apostel, a 6-foot-4 slugger from Curacao, generates extreme exit velocities and boasts some of the easiest raw power in the minors. He had a 35.2 Hard% at Low-A and High-A -- an elite mark for a 20-year-old in the lower levels. Apostel has a classic three-true-outcomes profile, striking out 25.1% of the time while walking at a 10.7% clip. One of his best tools is a double-plus arm, which would be wasted if he moves to first base or designated hitter, but that may end up being the reality, as he is a below-average runner who will only get bigger over the next few years. He had a .751 OPS against same-handed pitching and was much better (.856 OPS) against southpaws, but with his defensive limitations, he probably wouldn't last long on a quality MLB roster as a short-side platoon partner. He has a Miguel Sano/Jorge Soler type of ceiling, but the margin for error is thin, given his shortcomings.
The Rangers traded two-plus years of control over Keone Kela to Pittsburgh for a hard-throwing lefty (Taylor Hearn) and a power-hitting third baseman (Apostel). A native of Curacao, Apostel broke out in 2017 when he walked more than he struck out while logging a .237 ISO as an 18-year-old in the Dominican Summer League. He was older than the typical high-end prospect in that league, but largely backed up that performance in his stateside debut as a 19-year-old in the Appalachian and Northwest leagues. Already 6-foot-4, 213 pounds, Apostel makes contact at a pretty solid clip (20.5 K% since 2017) for a young power hitter. He also walks a ton (20.1 BB% since 2017), which makes him a more appealing asset in OBP and points leagues. Last year, Apostel slashed .248/.388/.456 against same-handed pitching while posting a .583 OBP in 36 PA against southpaws. He is on the short list of the best power hitters who have not yet made their full-season debuts.

Will get look at first base
3BTexas Rangers
November 23, 2020
Apostel will have chances to earn a spot on the big-league roster as a first baseman in the lead-up to the 2021 season, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
ANALYSIS
Apostel has played third base during most of his minor-league career, but he might profile best at first since he is 6-foot-4 and 235 lbs. However, the move would also be due to the fact Isiah Kiner-Falefa is fresh off a Gold-Glove-winning season, and in the long term, top prospect Josh Jung profiles for the hot corner. Apostel made his MLB debut in 2020 and, barring spectacular circumstances or an injury, could be in line for more regular MLB at-bats in 2021.
