Sam Coonrod

Once an up-and-coming starter in the Giants' farm system, Coonrod switched to a relief role late in 2017 and spent most of the following season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Despite struggling with a 6.96 ERA across 32.1 innings in Triple-A last season, Coonrod was brought up by San Francisco and eventually settled into a middle-relief role. The right-hander did well enough in 27.1 big-league frames, posting a 5-1 record along with a 3.58 ERA. However, his ERA was buoyed by an unsustainable .222 BABIP, resulting in an unimpressive 5.24 FIP. Moreover, Coonrod's ability to throw heat -- his fastball clocks in at over 96 mph -- translated to a paltry 17.5 K% at the big-league level while his walk rate was a troubling 13.2%. Coonrod's role could expand as San Francisco's bullpen will undergo major changes in the offseason, but there's little reason to believe that he'll carry any fantasy value in 2020.
