ANALYSIS
Dolis had made 63 appearances out of the Toronto bullpen between the prior two seasons, but he never earned a call-up to the majors in 2022 after joining the White Sox in April on a minor-league deal. Before he was released, Dolis logged a 5.02 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 28.2 innings at Triple-A Charlotte on the season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2013
2012
Dolis entered 2020 as something of a mystery, having most recently pitched at the highest level back in 2013. After a pair of unremarkable seasons in the minors, he left for Japan and figured things out, posting a 2.49 ERA in four years for the Hanshin Tigers. Despite that success overseas, he had minimal hype when he returned to the majors with Toronto, as even establishing himself as a respectable middle reliever would hardly make waves. He wound up as far more than a middle reliever for the Jays, saving five games while Ken Giles dealt with injuries and producing a 1.50 ERA in 24 innings. His underlying numbers don't back up quite that level of dominance, but a strong 31.0 K% and 50.0% groundball rate should remain enough to offset a poor 14.0 BB% going forward. That may add up to more of a setup man than a closer, but Dolis should be able to keep picking up saves unless Toronto brings in someone better.
Dolis made the team out of camp and even ascended to the closer role briefly when Carlos Marmol was struggling, but that was more due to the team's lack of options than anything Dolis did. By late May he was demoted to the minors, and after a brief callup went down again in July. Dolis does a good job of keeping the ball on the ground, but that was the only skill he displayed and he still gave up five homers in 38 innings. He'll vie for a middle relief job this spring.
Dolis made one big league appearance down the stretch last season after spending the rest of the year at Double-A Tennessee. He's not overpowering, as evidenced by his career 6.9 K/9IP in the minors but prior to 2011, most of his time was spent as a starter at the lower levels. If he's able to increase his strikeout rate or cut back a bit on the walk, he could be useful middle-relief arm for the Cubs down the road.
