2025 Projections
Cut loose by Oakland
Estrada (back) was released by the Athletics on Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Estrada was on the 60-day injured list due to a back strain, and after struggling through his last three rehab outings, he's been issued his release. The veteran right-hander accrued an unimpressive 6.85 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 11 strikeouts over five starts with Oakland this season (23.2 innings), and he hasn't pitched in the big leagues since April 16.

Estrada is 36 years old with a bad back and was only able to make five starts last year before being released. The high spin rate high fastball kept him in the game a lot longer than we thought it would, but this very much looks like the end of the line for him. He has always struggled with homers, so the new baseball is not going to be kind to him. He lives on working up and down in the zone, but his margin of error is razor thin and has become thinner each season. If he lands anything, it will be a minor-league deal to come to camp and provide some leadership to younger guys. His days of landing on any fantasy roster are simply over.
