Marte broke camp with the Angels for a second consecutive season, though he once again failed to impress in his limited playing time, hitting just .216/.273/.371 with seven homers in 90 games. He actually started out the season well, hitting .311/.367/.489 through the first month, only to stumble to a .188/.244/.336 line over the next five months (71 games, 160 plate appearances). The 27-year-old is now two years removed from his semi-breakout campaign in 2016 (113 wRC+), which is beginning to look like a career outlier with his continued struggles (59 and 78 wRC+ in 2017 and 2018, respectively). Marte was outrighted by the Angels in the offseason and elected free agency. He looks like nothing more than an end-of-the-bench utility piece at this point.
