Past Fantasy Outlooks

2016
May has some pedigree, being the son of a former major leaguer and a third-round pick back in 2013. However, the rest of his offensive game (besides his plus speed) hasn't developed as hoped. The outfielder hasn't slugged .400 or gotten on base at even a .330 clip above High-A. He's totaled five home runs over the past three seasons, with middling walk rates and elevated strikeout rates so far at the higher levels. A strong showing in spring training convinced the rebuilding White Sox to ship Peter Bourjos out of town and give May a look out of camp, but he's gotten off to a dismal start with the major-league team. Charlie Tilson isn't expected to return from a foot injury until late May at the earliest, but May is unlikely to be afforded much of a leash in a regular role if he continues to struggle. Even if he does pick it up some, he will primarily be a one-category play.
