Bettis was relegated to a bullpen role for the Rockies after struggling in three starts to begin the season and entered free agency after being outrighted in October. The 30-year-old posted a 6.08 ERA last season, although he carried a 4.49 xFIP that was his best since 2016. Bettis' average fastball velocity rose to 93.0 mph which helped contribute to a 9.3% swinging-strike rate, although he had the worst hard-hit rate of his career. The right-hander underwent hip surgery in the middle of August that ended his season, but he is expected to have a normal offseason and should be fully ready for spring training. While Bettis' woes in run prevention should be slightly alleviated when he doesn't have Coors Field as his home park, his issues were not all park related as evidenced by his 4.42 ERA in close to 300 career innings outside of Colorado.
