Rest-of-Season Projections
Shifts to 60-day DL
Wood (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Wood's move to the 60-day disabled list opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for David Fletcher's contract selection. Wood is expected to miss the remainder of the 2018 season and a good chunk of the 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May.

In a season with few bright spots for the Reds' bullpen, Wood was a success story. Well, maybe a 3.99 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 70 appearances isn't really success, but given the atrocious performances that Cincinnati got from its other relievers, the 31-year-old really had more success than most, especially for the first four months of the season. Through the end of July, the veteran right-hander possessed a 3.26 ERA and a 9.1 K/9 while giving up just one home run in 49.2 innings pitched. Things went south after that, however, as his ERA over the last two months of the season rose to 5.33 thanks to a walloping 2.7 HR/9 across that span (seven of which came at home). Wood's control was also pretty weak (4.5 BB/9), but given the lack of other viable options in the Reds' bullpen, he seems to be positioned for a position in the middle innings.
