Outrighted to alternate site
The Twins outrighted Gearrin to their alternate training site Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gearrin lost his spot on the Twins' 40-man roster when he was designated for assignment last week, but he'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed off waivers. Before he was DFA'd, Gearrin made one appearance for the Twins, tossing two scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

Gearrin saw a respectable workload in 2019, notching 55.1 innings over 66 appearances (two starts) between the Mariners and Yankees, but his performance was up and down. The 33-year-old recorded a 4.07 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over the course of the season, serving as a middle reliever for most of his time on the mound. He had a middling 19.9 K% that was his lowest rate since 2013, as well as a swinging-strike rate of just 8.1%, his lowest rate since his rookie season. The right-hander entered free agency this offseason, but his ceiling is likely capped as a middle reliever since he doesn't have the velocity or strikeout punch to close. His track record of inconsistency and age work against the journeyman. His odds of landing more than a minor-league contract are slim-to-none.
