1BWashington Nationals
April 28, 2018
Hague joined the Nationals on a minor-league deal Friday, Syracuse.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hague spent spring training with the Mariners but was released Tuesday. The 32-year-old has appeared in 43 major-league games in his career, but none since 2015. He has a .226/.286/.262 career line in the big leagues. He'll be little more than minor-league depth for the Nationals.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
2015
The 31-year-old spent 2016 in Japan, but after only producing a .685 OPS with the Hanshin Tigers, Hague decided to come back stateside to play and signed a minor league deal with Minnesota. He's only a year removed from being the International League MVP, so he could be a cheap source of power if he can translate any of that Triple-A success to the big leagues.
The 30-year-old Hague was unquestionably one of the best hitters in Triple-A last season. For his efforts, he was awarded the Most Valuable Player award in addition to being named an All-Star and the Player of the Month in July. Hague got a taste of major league action, but rather than stick around as a Quad-A player with another big league organization in 2016, Hague will head to Japan after being sold to the Hanshin Tigers in November.
Hague plays a few positions because he doesn’t play any one of them well. Offensively, he hit .282/.371/.465 while playing in Triple-A for both the Pirates and the Blue Jays. He has spent each of the last four seasons in Triple-A and could possibly run for, and win, a city council job in Indianapolis. In more than 2,000 plate appearances in Triple-A, Hague has batted .291/.366/.423 but has only earned 76 plate appearances in the big leagues, 74 of which came in 2012 when he was in Pittsburgh. He is Quad-A material that can safely be ignored, even if he is recalled in 2015.
