Closer Watch

Mariners -- Fernando Rodney was called upon in a non-save situation Monday, and he delivered about as Rodney-esque an outing as you could ask for, getting just one out while giving up two hits, a walk and the game-winning run. He's not taking his job back from Carson Smith – ever. This also seems like the provident moment to comment on newly recalled Mariners reliever Edgar Olmos, whose name reminds me of Edward James Olmos. If you haven't watched Battlestar Galactica, you should. I'm just saying.

Twins -- Glen Perkins duplicated Rodney's feat in the 10th inning Monday, getting knocked around for a pair of doubles, a walk and a run while recording just one out. Of course, Perkins has built up a reputation for success, so he gets mulligans for his rare bad outings.

Recommended Pickup
Carlos Beltran, OF, NYY – In recent days, we've seen a sudden resurgence of golden-era Beltran, as the 38-year-old hasn't been looking his age of late. Dating back to the final day of July, he's 16-for-45 (.356) with five home runs and an 8:5 BB:K in his last 13 games. Outfield's a deep position in fantasy and Beltran's decline since joining the Yankees has been well documented, but he hasn't always been healthy, and hey, how many other guys are sitting around on your league's waiver wire sporting an OPS north of .800?

Other Recent Recommendations:Jackie Bradley, Carlos Rodon, Eugenio Suarez, Danny Valencia, Khris Davis
