Jumbo Diaz

Diaz has the ability to miss a lot of bats, but the problem for him is what happens when someone does make contact. He gave up nine homers in 60.1 innings in 2015, a rate that is toxic when you're attempting to work in high-leverage situations late in games. Following the trade of Aroldis Chapman to the Yankees, Diaz will be among those that the Reds could look at to fill the void, though they might settle first upon J.J. Hoover.

Diaz quietly was one of the better stories in baseball last year. He lost over 70 pounds in the offseason to get below 300 pounds for the first time in years, yet still maintained the velocity on his lively fastball. After dominating at Triple-A Louisville for half a season, he finally made his major league debut at age 30 in June, having toiled in the minors for 10 years. He moved on to be one of the few reliable arms in the Reds' bullpen, becoming their top setup man after the Jonathon Broxton trade. Aroldis Chapman isn't going anywhere, but Diaz is the next in-house option should something go wrong.

Nicknamed "Jumbo," Diaz has been known primarily for two things in his career to date: pushing triple digits on the radar gun and 300 pounds on the scale. The rotund righty has been limited by arm injuries in recent years, including Tommy John surgery, so he's a long shot to make an impact in the coming years.

Diaz is coming off of Tommy John surgery, but he's a big right-hander whose fastball has been clocked as high as 99 mph.
