For the first time in three seasons, Pena pitched exclusively out of the bullpen during the 2020 campaign, logging 26.2 innings over 25 appearances. A strong start led to more high-leverage opportunities late in the season, and the right-hander picked up half of his four holds and both of his saves in September. Pena relies primarily on a sinker-slider combination, and the move to a short-inning role allowed him to put more oomph on both pitches. The velocity on the sinker jumped three mph while his slider speed was up by over two ticks. Though Pena doesn't excel at any particular skill, he posted better-than-average marks with a 25.2 K%, 7.0 BB% and 0.7 HR/9. Assuming his time as a starter is a thing of the past, he should be able to challenge for a setup role in a mostly mediocre bullpen. Raisel Iglesias was brought in to shore up the closer spot.
