Yahoo DFS Baseball: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Tanner Roark, WAS at ATL ($45): With so many good pitching options the past few days, it only makes sense that there would be a slate where there just aren't any good options. Well, "none" is a little strong,. There are a few good options, but no great ones, and Roark qualifies as a good option. Roark enters with a 4.43 ERA, but he's been pretty solid over his past four starts. Roark has recorded 32 strikeouts while posting four quality starts in his past four appearances.

Tyler Anderson, COL at SD ($34): One of these days, a starter is going to figure out the Padres. A line that I was sure I wouldn't write at any point this season for sure, but the Padres have chased the past three starters they've faced early. Hopefully that changes tonight as Anderson looks to be an option with plenty of value. Anderson enters with a 5.28 ERA, but he's been sharp in his past two outings, striking out seven, while allowing zero runs in 10 innings.

CATCHER

Rocky Gale, SD vs COL ($7): I don't remember listing a hitter against one of my pitchers this season, but I'll make an exception here because of Gale's price. Gale has only one game under his belt, but he hit a homer in that game and he's about as cheap as it gets. We don't have a lot of numbers on Gale, but we do know that he hit his home run off a lefty last night and he faces another one in Anderson. With plenty of firepower yet to come, I thought it wise to start with a cheap option at catcher.

FIRST BASE

Joe Mauer, MN at DET ($19): I'm not sure I've listed Mauer as an option all season, but with a short slate and a solid matchup, Mauer is one of the better options at first base. The Twins are happy to be out of New York, a place where they've historically struggled, and now they get a team just counting the days until the end of the season. Jordan Zimmermann takes the mound for the Tigers and he brings in a 6.18 ERA. Mauer enters with a .353 wOBA against righties this season, which is second on the Twins.

SECOND BASE

Whit Merrifield, KC at TOR ($18): In a down season overall, Merrifield has been one of a few bright spots for the Royals. Merrifield is coming off a huge game last night against a lefty, which is of little surprise as he's hit lefties well all season. Merrifield enters with a .371 wOBA against lefties this season, which is tops on the Royals. The Royals face J.A. Happ, who enters with a 3.76 ERA so a stack is not in-play, but Merrifield certainly is one guy worth targeting.

THIRD BASE

Josh Donaldson, TOR vs KC ($27): Entering the series against the Royals, no one was hotter in the all of baseball than Donaldson. With Jason Vargas and his 4.19 ERA on the mound for the Royals, Donaldson is bound to break out of his two-game mini-slump. Donaldson comes at a high price, but after the beating the Jays took last night, I expect them to be ultra focused tonight. Donaldson enters with a .410 wOBA against lefties this season, which is tops on the Blue Jays.

SHORTSTOP

Francisco Lindor, CLE at LAA ($27): Remember when the Indians long winning streak ended last week? Well, they are at it again and once again, the lineup is mashing at a high rate. Nobody in that lineup is hotter than Lindor right now and although opposition pitcher Parker Bridwell has pitched well in his past two stars, Lindor is matchup proof right now. Lindor has actually been better against lefties this season, but he still carries a strong .342 wOBA against righties this season.

OUTFIELD

Eddie Rosario, MN at DET ($22): With Zimmermann on the mound, the Twins are in play for a stack. Any Twins stack against a righty should include Rosario as he's been their best hitter against righties all season. Rosario enters with a .379 wOBA against righties this season, which is tops on the Twins.

Tommy Pham, STL at CIN ($24): Homer Bailey enters with a 6.86 ERA and although he's actually improved since his first few starts this season, he's still liable to blow up during any given start. Considering his opponent, a blow up doesn't appear to be too far away. Pham enters with a .398 wOBA against righties this season, which is tops on the Cards and top 15 in the majors.

Dexter Fowler, STL at CIN ($20): I went with this pair of Cardinals last night and it definitely paid off. Tonight, facing Bailey, both Fowler and Pham are in play again, not to mention Matt Carpenter as well. There are a couple of good stacking options on this board, but the Cardinals will likely be the most popular. Fowler enters with a .372 wOBA against righties this season, which is second on the Cards.
