Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Sunday's 1:05 PM Eastern 16-game MLB slate features all 30 teams and a Mets-Nationals doubleheader. None of the players below are priced near the top of their respective positions, but each one is in position to deliver strong bang for the buck. These are the day's top value plays...

PITCHER

Patrick Corbin, ARI vs. SF ($39): The streaking Corbin has been masterful in his past four starts, holding opponents to four runs on 20 hits with a 31:6 K:BB over 29.1 innings. His hot streak should continue against a Giants offense that ranks 28th with a .679 OPS against left-handed pitching. Pitching in the hitter-friendly Chase Field also hasn't had a negative impact on Corbin, as his 2.87 home ERA is actually substantially lower than his 5.38 road mark.

Lucas Giolito, CWS vs. DET ($34): Giolito was nothing special in his White Sox debut, but his strikeout potential and affordability make him an intriguing choice here against the Tigers. Detroit's lineup has done more brawling than hitting of late and ranks 28th with a .406 slugging percentage against right-handed pitching. Meanwhile, the 23-year-old righty has compiled a 9.37 K/9 at Triple-A Charlotte, and could easily finish among the day's scoring leaders if he's able to translate that ability to miss bats over to the major league level.

CATCHER

Miguel Montero, TOR vs. MIN ($7): Montero will serve as Toronto's everyday catcher with Russell Martin (oblique) sidelined, so don't expect him to stay this cheap for long. The bang for the buck on Montero is maximized in this home date against underwhelming Twins righty Kyle Gibson, who has allowed a .375 wOBA to left-handed hitters and sports a 5.76 ERA. While the veteran catcher has had a down season, he still owns a .339 career wOBA when facing righties.

FIRST BASE

Chris Davis, BAL at BOS ($15): Red Sox starter Doug Fister allowed just one hit in his last start, but that single blemish came on a homer by a left-handed hitter. Despite that impressive effort, the veteran righty still sports a 4.78 ERA and has allowed a .376 wOBA to batters from the left side. Davis knows how to capitalize on favorable matchups like this, having launched 85 of his 106 long balls since the start of the 2015 campaign against right-handed pitching.

SECOND BASE

Scooter Gennett, CIN vs. PIT ($13): Gennett has been fantastic when facing righties, with a .389 wOBA in 270 such at-bats this season. That excellent production should continue against Pirates starter Jameson Taillon, who has tailed off of late, surrendering 30 earned runs in 29 innings over his past six starts to raise his season ERA from 3.08 to 4.85. Great American Ballpark's 11th-ranked 1.03 park factor also works in Gennett's favor here.

THIRD BASE

Todd Frazier, NYY vs. SEA ($17): Frazier brings significant power potential against left-handed pitching, having hit eight home runs in 93 at-bats against them this season to give himself 32 homers in 361 such at-bats since the start of the 2015 campaign. Mariners southpaw Andrew Albers is more susceptible to the deep ball than your typical lefty, with a 1.41 career HR/9 and a 1.80 mark in two starts this season. Yankee Stadium's also a nearly ideal venue for homer-happy hitters, as its 1.37 home run park factor is second only to Citizens Bank Park.

SHORTSTOP

Tim Anderson, CWS vs. DET ($11): Anderson has been a tremendous low-cost option against southpaws all season thanks to a .298/.315/.460 line out of the leadoff spot. That success should continue against Tigers starter Matt Boyd, who sports a 6.24 ERA and 1.75 WHIP after being shelled for seven runs in 2.1 innings last time out.

OUTFIELD

Eddie Rosario, MIN at TOR ($18): Toronto right-hander Joe Biagini has spent most of his time in the bullpen, which isn't surprising given his 5.60 ERA over 54.2 innings in 11 starts. Rosario is well positioned to add to those struggles in Biagini's spot start here, as he's earned his spot in the heart of Minnesota's batting order by smashing 17 of his 18 home runs against right-handed pitching. The 25-year-old outfielder is more than just a power threat in this split, as evidenced by his hefty .370 wOBA.

Avisail Garcia, CWS vs. DET ($16): While Anderson scores a fair bit of runs against lefties, Garcia is often the man driving him in. The free-swinging outfielder has connected often when the opposition puts a southpaw on the mound, producing a .423 wOBA. Given Boyd's .380 wOBA allowed to right-handed hitters, Garcia is primed for another strong effort here.

Scott Schebler, CIN vs. PIT ($10): Taillon's recent struggles make him a prime candidate to stack against, which is why Schebler joins teammate Gennett here. The affordable outfielder's batting .364 since coming off the DL and looks to have rediscovered the power stroke that's propelled him to 25 home runs this year. All but five of those dingers have come against right-handed pitching.
