Closer Watch
Chicago Cubs - James Russell earned the first save of his career Tuesday afternoon. After the Cubs came from behind to take a 5-2 lead, Russell secured the final two outs of the game while giving up a double and striking out two hitters. After Carlos Marmol and Rafael Dolis couldn't handle the Cubs' closer role, the Cubs are going with a committee approach where Russell, Shawn Camp, and Casey Coleman could all receive opportunities at saves. Russell is has a 1.66 ERA this season and received the first ninth inning shot, so he could receive the most chances.

Recommended PickupKris Medlen, P, ATL: This may seem like a strange choice considering Medlen was just sent down to Triple-A. The Braves have a good reason for the move, though. Medlen is going down to stretch out and work as a starter for a couple of outings before rejoining the Braves and taking a place in their rotation. Whose rotation spot - Mike Minor or Randall Delgado - he will take is yet to be determined, but Medlen in a starting role is multitudes more valuable than he was as a middle/long reliever. Keep in mind, Medlen has been a very good reliever in an excellent bullpen, too. Think about what Lance Lynn has done after being converted back into a starter by the Cardinals in spring training. Obviously you can't expect Medlen to replicate those results exactly, but he has the chance to be a very good starter. If you're short on pitching, Medlen might be worth an add before he returns to the majors in a couple of weeks.

Other Recent Recommendations: Lonnie Chisenhall, Tom Wilhelmsen, Steve Cishek, Justin Morneau, Alex Cobb
