Closer Watch

Yankees – With Mariano Rivera having blown three straight save chances, Joe Girardi used a combination of Boone Logan and David Robertson to finish things off in the ninth Monday. They did so in shaky fashion, combining to allow two hits, two walks and a run, but they still got it done. Robertson was especially rough, but he was credited with the save nonetheless. Expect Mariano to get the next chance.

Blue Jays – Casey Janssen was tasked with the ever-horrifying non-save situation Monday, entering a tie game in the ninth, and he totally imploded, allowing four runs to the A's to take his first loss of the year. He's given up a whopping seven hits in his last two outings – both against Oakland – but there's probably not much to worry about here as far as job security. Unfortunately, Janssen doesn't get a lot of save chances for the unimpressive Jays.

Mariners – There goes that Danny Farquhar again. He's rattled off four straight saves with nary a blemish, including Sunday's game against Milwaukee. With his comfort in the role and that eye-popping 56:14 K:BB on the year, Farquhar looks like he's got a good chance to hold onto Seattle's closing job for the rest of this season. (Ten points if you get the reference from the headline!)

Recommended Pickup
Wilmer Flores, 3B, NYM – Fantasy owners hurting at third base – and there are many of them this year – might find a shot in the arm in the form of the 22-year-old Flores, just called up from Triple-A last week in the wake of David Wright's hamstring injury. He'd been raking all year long in Las Vegas, rattling off a .321 average with 15 homers and a whopping 86 RBI in 107 games, and his ribbie-happy ways have continued since his promotion, as he's knocked in nine runs in his first six games in the majors. Flores is a terrific contact hitter already – with some opposite-field power to boot – and he's only going to get better. As long as Wright's out, you'll get some good use out of him, and he might find a way to stick in the lineup even after that.

Other Recent Recommendations: Dan Haren, Henderson Alvarez, Bruce Chen, Robbie Grossman, Stephen Drew
