Closer Watch

Nationals – The Nats gave Rafael Soriano a test run with a 4-0 lead in the ninth Monday, but he gave up two doubles and a walk to make things close, so Drew Storen came on, gave up an RBI single to score a second run charged to Soriano, but then got the final out for his sixth save. A night like this makes it even more likely that Soriano isn't going to find his way back into the role this season.

White Sox – Jake Petricka was stuck with a blown save and a loss Monday, serving up a pair of runs on three this against the Royals. He now owns five blown saves to go with 13 successful ones, and though he gave up runs for the first time in seven outings, a couple late-August implosions mean he's allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits and three walks in his last 8.1 innings. However, the White Sox really don't have anyone else pitching well enough to take his job away.

Tigers – Joe Nathan got the day off Monday, and so Joakim Soria came on for his first save as a Tiger, pitching around a hit for a scoreless ninth. However, Nathan's expected to be right back in the saddle Tuesday.

Recommended Pickup
Juan Uribe, 3B, LAD – Loss of David Wright giving you the blues? Maybe this Dodger is the cure. Uribe's a spectacularly rare breed – a guy hitting over .300 right now who's probably available in your league. He's been playing most every day and is on an eight-game hitting streak, with five multi-hit games and three homers mixed in there. In short, he's been more helpful than he generally gets credit for. Take advantage.
