There's plenty of DFS action Wednesday with a "very early" slate at 12:10 p.m. EDT, an "early" slate at 3:40 p.m. EDT and the "main" slate starts at the usual 7:05 p.m. EDT. There's only eight games on the main slate, but there are three pitchers priced at $10,000 or more.
Pitching
For cash games there's two pitchers to target, and not surprisingly they're two of the three highest-priced pitchers on the slate. Let's start with the Nationals' Patrick Corbin ($10,800), who gets a juicy home matchup against the Rockies. Normally, the Rockies would be a team to avoid when considering a left-handed pitcher but they've been terrible on the road against that handedness. Colorado has a team .284 in that split (fourth lowest) and their 31 percent strikeout rate is the second highest for that split. Corbin has been ridiculously good at home this season with a 1.84 ERA with a supporting 0.86 WHIP while striking out over a batter per inning.
The other option to consider for cash games is the Mets' Noah Syndergaard ($10,000). Syndergaard has been wildly inconsistent but like Corbin gets a great matchup at home against the Padres. San Diego has a .307 wOBA against right-handed pitching (22nd in baseball) and their 26.1 percent strikeout rate is the second highest. Syndergaard has had two solid starts coming out of the All-Star Break with 46 and 52 fantasy points.
Looking at the cheaper options for pitching, the Marlins' Zac Gallen ($6,800) stands out. He has a respectable 3.63 ERA and has scored 24, 28, 30 and 30 fantasy points in four of his five starts. The Tigers continue to struggle with the second-lowest wOBA (.284) against right-handed pitching and their 26.3 percent strikeout rate is the highest in baseball. Gallen hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his starts and has recorded 26 strikeouts in 22.1 innings since being called up.
Key Values/Chalk
While he's not cheap, the Dodgers' Joc Pederson ($3,600) warrants consideration tonight. He'll face a right-handed pitcher in Jaime Barria and at home he has a .425 wOBA in that split. Barria has a .473 wOBA on the road against left-handed hitters in a limited sample this season.
The middle infield spots are always a good opportunity to punt and the Royals' Humberto Arteaga ($2,000) is a good target. He's at the minimum price, meaning any output is gravy from him. Arteaga has been hitting sixth in the batting order and has a decent matchup against Julio Teheran.
The Rockies' Kyle Freeland has given up at least five runs in each of his last four starts, putting all of the Nationals firmly in play. Washington's Anthony Rendon ($4,200) has a .429 wOBA against southpaws this season and that number rises to .506 when he's at home. Freeland has surrendered a .378 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season.
If you're a believer in the "hot hand" theory it'll be hard to pass up the Mets' Robinson Cano ($2,600), especially at that price. Cano hit three home runs last night and has a favorable home matchup against right-handed Dinelson Lamet.
He was touted a couple of nights ago and still had a low ownership, but the Twins' Mitch Garver ($3,600) came through with a 46.3 fantasy point performance. Garver is up to a .527 wOBA against left-handed pitching and gets to face J.A. Happ tonight (4.86 ERA). While Nelson Cruz will rightfully garner a lot of attention, don't forget about Garver.
Stacks
Nationals vs. Rockies (Freeland)
Rendon, Brian Dozier (2B - $2,700), Trea Turner (SS - $3,900), Victor Robles (OF - $3,100)
As already stated, Freeland is a good pitcher to target and all of these players hit lefties well. Robles has a cash game argument, sporting a .368 wOBA against southpaws this season.
Dodgers vs. Angels (Barria)
Cody Bellinger (OF - $4,700), Pederson (OF - $3,600), Alex Verdugo (OF - $3,000), Corey Seager (SS - $2,800)
Using Bellinger will likely mean pairing him with a pitcher like Gallen or someone in that price range. All of these hitters are lefties and Barria is allowing a .473 wOBA to that handedness on the road in a limited sample.
