PITCHER
Danny Salazar, CLE at MIN ($9,800): The last two outings haven't been particularly efficient for Salazar, but he did rack up 21 strikeouts, while the Twins rank seventh in the majors in K-rate over the past 30 days. Considering some of the five-figure options on the slate, Salazar brings as much upside as any of them at a slight discount.
CATCHER
Welington Castillo, ARI vs. SFG ($2,500): At home against lefties, Castillo has raked to the tune of a 176 wRC+ and .310 ISO. Opposing starter Madison Bumgarner's away ERA is over a point higher than at home, while allowing a surprisingly lenient 1.40 HR/9. The matchup with a great pitcher is suboptimal, but the price and righty/lefty and home/away splits may move the advantage towards Castillo at the discounted price. Plus, this is catcher, and with no premium players to pay up for, you are better off seeking out a salary cap reliever to enable spending more on the offensively inclined positions.
FIRST BASE
Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. NYM ($3,600): After riding a 1.48 HR/9 through Triple-A this season (5.73 ERA), Robert Gsellman was called up and is now making his third career MLB start. In a relatively small sample, Gsellman has allowed a 5.29 xFIP to lefties. The Braves, behind Freeman, are one of the most improved offenses in the league. Freeman specifically turned in a monstrous August with a 199 wRC+ and a .375 ISO, while his wRC+ for September is at 208.
SECOND BASE
Jose Altuve, HOU vs. CHC ($3,400): In Altuve, not only are you investing in one of the best lefty-mashers in the game, but he has a prime base stealing matchup against one of the worst defensive pitchers in the game (Jon Lester). Altuve's wRC+ against lefties sits at 167, while his on-base percentage is at .428.
THIRD BASE
Adonis Garcia, ATL vs. NYM ($2,500): The two-hole ahead of Freddie Freeman contains a lot of value. While batting second in the lineup, Garcia's wRC+ sits at 114, and he's scored 22 runs in the 27 games he's played in that spot.
SHORTSTOP
Brandon Crawford, SFG at ARI ($3,200): Crawford brings in a solid away vs. righty split of 118 wRC+ into a very good hitters' park. The Diamondbacks will be sending Rubby De La Rosa, who has a 4.67 xFIP against lefties in his career, to the mound for the first time since May.
OUTFIELD
Andrew McCutchen, PIT vs. CIN ($3,200): The up-and-down season continues, but McCutchen is not to be ignored in this matchup. Tim Adleman's xFIP is over five, showing struggles to get batters out regardless of handedness. McCutchen closed out August with a 124 wRC+ and has continued that form with a 125 eight days into September.
Ender Inciarte, ATL vs. NYM ($3,200): The first half of the season was abysmal, but as the summer months heated up, do did Inciarte's bat, posting a 156 wRC+ in August. In addition to the solid hitting form and desirable position atop the Braves' lineup, Inciarte brings stolen base upside, with 14 on the season.
Randal Grichuk, STL vs. MIL ($3,600): Grichuk has come back with a vengeance after a brief demotion to Triple-A. August yielded a 165 wRC+ and ridiculous .448 ISO. So far, so good in September, as his wRC+ sits at a 204. Opposing pitcher Jimmy Nelson's xFIP away from home this season sits a 5.15.
