Women's World Cup: Monday DFS Breakdown

Monday's two-game slate gives us two more uneven matches, as Japan (-1000 to win on DraftKings Sportsbook) takes on Argentina and Canada (-625 to win) faces off against Cameroon. We've seen some decent play from underdogs, like China (v. Germany) and South Africa (v. Spain before the red card), not to mention Italy's win over Australia on Sunday. However, it's tough to get excited about either Argentina or Cameroon for Monday's slate.

Japan will mostly rely on the defense to get them results in France, but they are still giant favorites against Argentina, who are one of the worst teams in the tournament. They're a technical, high-possession and pressing team that isn't likely to simply cross to no one or shoot at any time, so it's tough to get excited about their fantasy floors. But again, Japan should crush Argentina, and Kumi Yokoyama comes in with -137 odds to score. She is not a high-volume shooter by any means (no one really is), but the formation is set up to get the ball to her. And the player who is more important in getting the ball where it needs to be is Emi Nakajima, as she'll be responsible for Japan's set pieces. She's not overly expensive on DraftKings at $8,100 (the sixth-highest price on the slate), and her $20 price tag on FanDuel is reasonable as the fourth-highest. Again, this is a set-piece taker for a -1000 favorite, so she's going to be popular. Jun Endo could be an interesting piece to include if you're stacking Japan, and while $5,100 on DraftKings looks pretty solid, she's a dirt cheap $10 on FanDuel.

Argentina will completely rely upon central attacking midfielder Estefania Banini to get moving in the attack; unfortunately, Argentina doesn't figure to have much of the ball, which obviously limits Banini's potential. That being said, $4,200 on DraftKings is more than reasonable for a player with her role; you're just banking on Argentina over-performing if you're expecting double-digit fantasy points. Her $16 price on FanDuel isn't as attractive, even if Argentina pretty much have nothing to lose. Whether they ball out or not, paying $20 for Sole Jaimes on FanDuel seems like a waste of salary, though if Milagros Menendez ($10) gets a start she could be an interesting punt. Both are totally goal dependent for a side that's expected to be dominated. That being said, Jaimes is $4,000 and Menendez $3,800 on DraftKings.

Canada v. Cameroon should be closer, but Canada are still firmly expected to take care of business. Any discussion about Canada begins with Christine Sinclair, whose 181 international goals are only three behind American legend Abby Wambach for the all-time record. She is understandably the most expensive player on the slate on both DraftKings ($10,100) and FanDuel ($24), though her -175 anytime goal scorer odds are also the highest. There is theoretically a path to fading her because Canada have a number of players who could make up the points with their lower salaries, but Sinclair also figures to be fairly high owned because the slate only has four teams. Janine Beckie is $9,300, and while a $1,500 difference isn't nothing, you're probably just going to want to find the money for Sinclair unless you're specifically fading her for leverage in tournaments. However, Beckie is literally half the price of Sinclair on FanDuel, so pairing them together could be an interesting strategy if you think Canada dominates. She's not guaranteed a start, but 5-foot-11-inch striker Jordyn Huitema, who is heading to Paris Saint-Germain next season, could be a sneaky option at just $4,900 on DraftKings and $8 on FanDuel. Unfortunately, Canada plays in the second match of the slate, so you'll have to figure out the salary issues if you're depending on her to start. Someone you can depend on is Jessie Fleming, who is way too cheap on DraftKings at just $4,200, and her $16 price on FanDuel is certainly worth considering. Just 21 years old, Fleming has already made more than 50 appearances for Canada, and while she could easily play professionally, she's currently dominating college soccer at UCLA. Capable of scoring goals and setting them up, it's kind of shocking how cheap she is on DraftKings. If you're looking for some center-back goals, Kadiesha Buchanan, who is the center-back partner to Wendie Renard at Lyon, is $4,800 on DraftKings and $14 on FanDuel, prices that will likely have few people looking her way. Ashley Lawrence and Allysha Chapman are Canada's attacking fullbacks, and while the former is a very-high $6,000 on DraftKings, the latter is only $3,600.

Speaking of defenders, the Cameroonians could be very busy given Canada's ability to attack. Christine Manie ($16 on FanDuel) may be a defender worth paying up for because she could lead the slate in clearances, though Estelle Johnson ($8) could be a salary-saving option if she starts. Even if she doesn't, at least two Cameroon defenders will be $10 or less. Given Canada's preference to attack and Cameroon's excellence in countering, there aren't likely be a ton of DraftKings floor points from Cameroon, though the lightning-quick goal can't be ruled out. Ajara Nchout ($4,300 on DraftKings, $16 on FanDuel) seems to be the most likely to benefit from that situation, though Gaelle Enganamouit ($5,200/$14) or Gabrielle Onguene ($4,500/$18) could be options too. You just simply can't expect a plethora of floor points from a +1600 underdog, even if Raissa Feudjio, who could be on set pieces, is only $3,800 on DraftKings and $14 on FanDuel; I mean, how many dead balls can you expect from a counter-attacking team likely to have very little possession? FanDuel seems like the better place to consider Cameroonians, with Genevieve Ngo Mbeleck ($8) a strong defensive midfielder who should have plenty of opportunities to put in some work.
