The summer transfer window presents another chance for the rich to get richer in talent, and the poor to get richer in their bank accounts. Big clubs will be looking to prey on promising talents on small budget teams, luring players with large transfer bids and the chance of playing in a European Cup. Those small clubs take that money and reinvest it on players to help them stay at the top level. All the while, excess players on big clubs get a chance to be loaned out to teams who could not bear their full transfer price tag. For example, a player worth £5 million may have more impact than one worth £50 million. Here is a list of players within the English Premier League that are likely to garner plenty of attention in this latest transfer window:
Charlie Adam (M) Blackpool
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United said that Adam's corners alone are worth £10 million. With that type of recommendation, it's clear that Blackpool is going to cash in on their prized asset as they have been relegated to the Championship. The Scot blew onto the scene with Blackpool this past Premier League season, having been an integral part of an attacking side that scored the same amount of goals (55) as fifth-place Tottenham. Liverpool and Manchester United both put in a bid for Adam in the January transfer window to no avail, but Adam's value may be lower than expected due to Blackpool's relegation.
Cesc Fabregas (M) Arsenal
Fabregas to Barcelona is the rumor that will not go away until it is actually comes true. Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, has never budged in his stance of not wanting to move his captain, but it all may come down to how much money Barcelona will put up for their dream
transfer. It's destined to be another transfer window where every person ever associated with Barcelona will say they want Fabregas at Camp Nou.
Luka Modric (M) Tottenham
Modric has been a key to Tottenham's recent run of success in England and Europe, making clubs across the continent take notice. Fortunately for Tottenham fans, manager Harry
Redknapp will stop at nothing to keep his Croatian playmaker. Manchester United and Chelsea have already said they are keen on bringing Modric onto their respective rosters. Chelsea have made the first move, but not to their advantage, as their initial offer was laughed
at by management at White Hart Lane. Manchester United have been keeping track of Modric, hoping that his potential move could fill part of the hole that Paul Scholes left. It will be tough for Tottenham to hold onto Modric this summer, as most of the clubs pursuing him can offer something they can't match - Champions League soccer.
Charles N'Zogbia (M) Wigan
N'Zogbia can be considered one of the main reasons why Wigan avoided relegation this past season. His great form at the end of the Premier League campaign earned him a spot on manager Laurent Blanc's side for France's European 2012 Championships qualifying campaign. Wigan have been only been two spots above the relegation zone for the past two seasons, and the
former Newcastle man has made it clear he now wants to play for silverware. N'Zogbia's name has come up in the front offices all over the Premier League, but don't be surprised if he leaves England for a Champions League contender on the mainland of Europe.
Samir Nasri (M/F) Arsenal
Nasri indicated that he would be open for a move away from Arsenal, while his manager, Arsene Wenger, said that won't be possible. A new contract for Nasri is in the works, and if the Gunners want to keep their star Frenchman, they will have to pay him accordingly. Manchester United is waiting in the wings for a slip up by Arsenal so they can get their man who would help replace the now-retired Paul Scholes. Manchester City have also been keeping track of Nasri, and if
he is looking for a huge pay day, City will definitely be in the running for his signature.
Peter Odemwingie (F) West Bromwich Albion
Odemwingie burst onto the scene last season for West Brom by scoring in his debut game with the winning goal against Sunderland. He ended up scoring 15 times, helping West Brom to an 11th place spot in the Premier League. West Brom is going to want to sign their star striker
to a long-term deal and hopefully do so early in the transfer window to stop all rumors before they start. If a price for Odemwingie's services can't be agreed upon, teams around England and Europe may come in and give the Nigerian a deal he can't pass up.
Scott Parker (M) West Ham
Parker had a terrific season winning the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award, while also earning a spot back on the England squad. Soccer isn't a one-man game, and Parker's work was for not, as his club, West Ham, was relegated with the least amount of points (33) in
the entire Premier League. With West Ham in the second division of English soccer, he will be given the opportunity to be transferred to a team at the highest level. Parker is being pursued by the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham, and it shouldn't be a surprise if any of the other big English sides come into the competition for his services in the near future.
Daniel Sturridge (F) Chelsea
Sturridge was loaned out to Bolton, from Chelsea, in the January transfer window this past season, and ended up with eight goals in 12 appearances for the Wanderers. The English striker is now back at Chelsea and said to be in the team's plans of getting younger. Sturridge could be left without playing time if Chelsea add another forward in the transfer market and don't get rid of some of their aging strikeforce. Bolton and possibly some other Premier League teams
will be hoping that Chelsea can't find a place in their squad as Sturridge has the talent to start for most of the top-flight squads.
Carlos Tevez (F) Manchester City
Tevez has said that he never wants to return to Manchester, that is, unless he leaves Manchester City. City's star striker has yet to make up his mind on whether he wants to stay at the City of Manchester Stadium by putting in transfer requests, and then saying that he wants
to stay. If Manchester City had not qualified for the Champions League, the news of Tevez wanting to leave most likely would have been more prevalent, but expect there still to be rumors of Tevez moving to any of the power clubs across Europe.
Ashley Young (M/F) Aston Villa
Young seems set for a move away from Villa Park, with new manager Alex McLeish looking to make his own mark on the team. The sale of Young will inject some cash into the club for McLeish to bring on players that fit his system. Young has been with Aston Villa since moving from Watford in 2007, and his performances have earned him a spot on England's international team. Manchester United have been the frontrunners for Young since it became clear that he was going to leave Aston Villa for a chance at playing in the Champions League. That being said, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, are very eligible suitors for Young's services.
