With two two-game slates this weekend for the bigger GPPs, plus one early match Saturday available for some, here are some picks that cover Saturday, Sunday and Monday:
Goalkeepers:
Artur Boruc, BOU v. SWA ($3,600): Both teams, surprisingly, come into this game off consecutive wins, giving each a considerable cushion above what is now a four-team relegations fight – if you can still even count Aston Villa. All aside, the Cherries are sub-even money yet you can still get Boruc as the fifth-priced goalkeeper (behind opposing Lukasz Fabianski) on a three-game slate and $900 less than Joe Hart.
Defenders:
Adam Smith, BOU v. SWA ($3,700):Charlie Daniels has rightfully garnered much attention on the left side through both his proficient defensive and offensive exploits, but in terms of floors, Smith is just about on the same level. He does everything to a slightly lesser extent, but not enough to constitute the $900 difference.
Kyle Walker, TOT at AVL ($4,000): With Kieran Trippier getting the start at midweek against Borussia Dortmund, Walker is poised to be in the starting XI on Sunday. His crossing and overall upside don't match those of Trippier, but he's still capable of some nice numbers in a solid matchup against Villa.
Cuco Martina, SOU at STK ($2,900): There's a legitimate chance we see Martina in the starting XI, and he could provide some excellent salary relief along with some nice production for this price level.
Kevin Wimmer, TOT at AVL ($2,200): You get a starter on the clearest favorite of the five games, and the low price allows for paying up in the midfield.
Midfielders:
Jesus Navas, MCI at NOR ($4,600): Assuming he starts (and hopefully sees 70+ minutes), Navas gives you cheap exposure to the heaviest favorites on Saturday. He had nine crosses, an assist and 17 fantasy points against Aston Villa last weekend.
Xherdan Shaqiri, STK v. SOU ($6,700): Shaqiri is bordering on matchup-proof now after delivering 10 crosses at Stamford Bridge last weekend. At home against Southampton is among the better matchups from a crossing standpoint.
Jonjo Shelvey, NEW at LEI ($5,500): Newcastle is a mess, but Shelvey has been very solid from his deep midfield position, as he's capable of dangerous through balls and also stands over corners. He's hit double-digit fantasy points in four consecutive matches.
Dele Alli, TOT at AVL ($6,400): He didn't play against Dortmund because he's a little banged up, but it seems there's a decent chance he'll be ready to go by Sunday; and coming off a shellacking at the hands of Dortmund at midweek, poor Aston Villa is going to get the wrath of the Spurs attack. With seven goals and seven assists on the season, Alli could be an excellent buy into the Tottenham offensive pivot off Christian Eriksen or Harry Kane.
Forwards:
Sergio Aguero, MCI at NOR ($9,000): Why even think about it? There are enough warm bodies that you could try to get around him in GPPs.
Max Gradel, BOU v. SWA ($4,600): It was disappointing to have Gradel step off the pitch 61 minutes in against Newcastle with just six fantasy points, but with Junior Stanislas still hampered by injury, Gradel will continue to see run on the Bournemouth wing that has been very affluent to crosses all season long.
Jamie Vardy, LEI v. NEW ($7,800): Newcastle is in shambles and the sacking of their manager clinches it. Leicester hosts them, and their terrible away defense is going to concede goals. The question for many will be Vardy or Kane, but the $1,000 discount puts Vardy higher on the value meter.
Jordan Ayew, AVL v. TOT ($4,000): In terms of discount forwards with a nice floor, Ayew is nice even against Spurs. He does a little bit of everything and sneaking a goal is certainly not outside of the question.
