The Giants announced Monday that Iwakuma plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2020 season, The Japan Times reports.

Iwakuma, 39, is expected to meet with the media Friday to confirm the decision. The right-hander is currently in the midst of his second stint with NPB after going 107-69 with a 3.25 ERA in 226 games from 2001 to 2011 before he made the jump to Major League Baseball. He ended his playing days in North America following the 2018 season but hasn't pitched for the Giants over his two years with the club while struggling to regain top form since requiring shoulder surgery in 2017.
