Suspension reduced
Murdock (head) has accepted a reduced penalty from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and will be eligible to compete Sept. 6.
ANALYSIS
Murdock is dealing with a rare brain disorder that clouds any potential return to the UFC much more than anything USADA-related, but it's one less obstacle for the featherweight fighter should he eventually choose to make a comeback. He was originally dealt a 20-month suspension in September of 2019, but after submitting new medical records related to his treatment, USADA determined a lower degree of fault and chopped six months off the suspension.

Brain surgery called a success
Murdock underwent successful brain surgery in mid-November, Nolan King of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Murdock was unable to gain medical clearance for his scheduled UFC debut against Jordan Griffin last June, and it was later revealed that he was dealing with a rare and life-threatening medical condition called moyamoya. This required a cerebral artery bypass and craniotomy, which Murdock was able to pay for in part due to a viral social media campaign centered around a GoFundMe account titled "Save Vinny's Brain." Given the seriousness of the condition that was discovered, a return to the fight game hasn't even been discussed, and it's unclear if that will ever be a possibility moving forward.

ANALYSIS

His withdrawal leaves UFC officials with less than two days to find a replacement opponent for Griffin.
