Cruises as biggest favorite on card

Nolan defeated Alex Reyes via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC 305 on Saturday in Perth, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Nolan won this fight easily, but it was still an underwhelming performance given the level of competition he was facing, combined with the fact he entered as a -1200 favorite. At 6-foot-3, Nolan is about the biggest lightweight you will ever see. He has solid stand-up skills, but like many taller fights, stands straight up and struggles to get his head off the center line. It was never going to matter against Reyes, but that, combined with the fact he has displayed very little grappling game, is cause for concern moving forward. The good news is that at age 24, Nolan has a ton of time to make improvements.

Scheduled for UFC 305
LightweightUFC
May 22, 2024
Nolan will fight Alex Reyes in a lightweight matchup at UFC 305 on Aug. 17, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The Australian lightweight will get his next matchup after his first UFC win over Victor Martinez with a TKO earlier this May. Nolan, who's currently sporting a 1-1 record, will get his third fight against a more experience UFC competitor, though Reyes hasn't been in the octagon since 2023 and that match was his first in six years.
Picks up first UFC victory
LightweightUFC
May 18, 2024
Nolan defeated Victor Martinez via TKO (strikes) at 3:50 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Viewed by many as a legitimate prospect at 155 pounds, Nolan was knocked out by Nikolas Motta in 63 seconds in his UFC debut in January. He looked much better here against Martinez, although he was still knocked down and and in trouble for a brief moment. He eventually recovered and scored the stoppage following a beautiful knee to the gut. Nolan is gigantic (6-foot-2) for 155 pounds, but that length provides a big target for his opposition. Having turned just 24 years of age this past March, Nolan has plenty of time to make adjustments inside the Octagon.

Nolan will take on Victor Martinez in a lightweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for May 18, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Nolan got his UFC opportunity with a first-round finish on the Contender Series in August but was quickly finished by Nikolas Motta in his UFC debut last January. He'll get right back on the horse in May, taking on an opponent in Martinez with a similar career trajectory -- a win on Contender Series followed by a first-round loss in his promotional debut. Nolan will enter with significant height and reach advantages.
Lasts 63 seconds in UFC debut

January 13, 2024
Nolan lost to Nikolas Motta via TKO (punches) at 1:03 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Well, that should just about do it for any hype that had been building behind Nolan. Making his UFC debut on the heels of an 83-second knockout win on Dana White's Contender Series last August, Nolan, who entered as a -360 favorite, got clipped by a one-two combination from Motta and went down like a ton of bricks. A few follow-up strikes later, and it was all over. Nolan has some theoretical potential simply because he won't be 24 years of age until early-March, but this performance may be impossible to overcome given the result and the caliber of competition he was facing.

Nolan will face Nikolas Motta on Jan. 13 i Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Nolan earned a UFC contract back in August when he beat Bogdan Grad via KO/TKO during Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. The 6-foot-3 Nolan is a perfect 6-0 in his MMA career, though he's only been fighting since late 2020. He'll face a fighter in Motta who is just 1-2 in his UFC career, which dates back to 2022. Nolan will also possess a distinct six-inch reach advantage, but there's not much else that will separate the two lightweights in the ring.
