Borshchev lost to Chase Hooper via submission (Brabo choke) at 3:00 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in St. Louis.

If there was any justice in this world, Borshchev would be awarded some kind of bonus for lasting as long as he did. The scary thing is that the tap-out that ended the fight was highly questionable. What isn't questionable is the fact Borshchev was dominated from bell-to-bell. He was knocked down by Hooper in the early going and spent nearly all of Round 1 defending on the mat. He was then taken down early in Round 2 and controlled before the "submission" materialized. Borshchev has just 11 professional fights under his belt at age 32. He's the striking coach at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, so his schedule is quite full even if he doesn't have a bout lined up.

He was the far better man in Round 1 before getting rocked in a major way in Round 2. Borshchev's toughness combined with some poor fight IQ displayed by Sadykhov allowed the former to survive the frame and get right back on the offense in Round 3, earning the draw. Borshchev's secondary skills are lacking, but he's a high-end kickboxer who can hang with most any lightweight on the roster in a striking battle. He'll also walk away with an extra $50,000 here after this back-and-forth matchup was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
